Discussion of Land in IPB
Department of Soil Science land and Land Resources, IPB, held Soil Workshop 2012in the Common Classrooms, Darmaga Campus (25/12). This is one of the series of activities in the National Soil Science Seminar 2012.
This workshop reminds again of how to make absorbing holes called biopori and organic fertilizer. This is intended to inform that the general public and students so that they get some knowledge and can apply an appropriate technology for soil conservation. This was said by Dr. Ir. Yayat Hidayat, M.Si from the Biopori Team of IPB. The activity was continued with the practice of making biopores around the yard of the common classroom.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iswandi Anas, M.Sc, a soil bioengineering expert of IPB, talked about the practice of how to produce organic fertilizer from cow dung and hay.
Also presented in this workshop was the challenge in the Implementation of PLPPB Law No. 41/2009 in Indonesia to achieve Indonesian food self-reliance. According to a resources person from the Ministry of Agriculture, every province and Regency / city must establish a sustainable area of farmland (LP2B) at its own RTRW (neighborhoods). He said that it is predicted that in 2025, with the assumption of the land conversion at 110,000 ha per year, the Indonesian agricultural land is less than 5 million ha. Therefore, in addition to increasing the area of the major land, it is necessary to maintain the existing agricultural land of food crop. Legally all food crop lands are established as LP2B. Such establishment must consider the criteria of LP2B, which include potential and suitability of land. The size of land requirements will differ depending on the population growth and the rate of food consumption in the respective province and regency/city.
Meanwhile, the central and local governments must ensure the highest possible protection of food crop land from conversion, given that the agricultural land resources (rice field) in Java is greatly potential and is irreplaceable by any island in Indonesia. On the other hand the high rate of population growth and rapid development that require new lands have led to the competition in land use.
The workshop is sponsored by PT. Petrochemicals Gresik, PT. Saraswanti Anugerah Makmur, Mine Reclamation Study Center of IPB, Environmental Research Center of IPB, PT. Sitosu Agro Cemerlang, Brighten Institute, P4W, Belilepi, and the donors from the Alumni of Department of Soil Science and Land Resources, and the partner media of this event is the IPB’s Green TV IPB.
