After five years of work, Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya) assisted by Human Resources Development Center (P2SDM) of the Institution for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB is increasingly improving with the focus on the improvement of community empowerment activities in economy, education, health, and environment.

For this, the Vice Head of Community Service Division of LPPM IPB Dr. Prastowo expressed high appreciation to P2SDM that keeps striving to develop the concept of how to make community service achieve the community empowerment.

Dr. Prastowo expressed that at the opening ceremony of Posdaya Supervisor Training, a Human Resources Development and Strengthening Program of 2012, Tuesday (17 / 1), in the Meeting Room of LPPM IPB,  Rectorate Building of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Dramaga Campus of IPB.

This assistantship program of Posdaya involved 30 assistants or accompanying workers. They are not only students but also alumni of IPB. There were 198 students and alumni enrolling for this activity, as many as 30 people of whom were accepted after the selection through a written test and interviews.
 
On this occasion, Dr. Prastowo gave a moral message to those who will take part for six months in the community. The message is that the assistants should have in particular an adequate understanding of Posdaya, a high facilitating motivation and appropriately play their self role or function.

"Don’t take the wrong role. Why? Because there is a tendency we like to talk than to listen. There are times when we should be a resource person, motivator, facilitator or mediator. Never be ashamed to say do not know if you really do not know," said Dr. Prastowo.

Meanwhile, Head  of P2SDM IPB Dr. Pudji Mulyono said, through cooperation with those who have great attention to the empowerment, P2SDM LPPM IPB has developed about 100 Posdayas in four regencies/cities, namely the city of Bogor, Bogor Regency, Sukabumi Regency and Cianjur Regency. Remarkably, the four Local Governments gives full support both morally and materially, and even include it in their Regional Revenue- Expenditure Budget. The private sector, cooperatives, foundations, NGOs also participate through an appropriate program such as CSR of PT. AkzoNobel, PT Indocement, and cooperation with PT Holcim is being explored.

In the fields of health, integrated health, Posbindu for the Elderly, the introduction of reproductive health to adolescents, the activities run livelier. In education, the activities of the Early Childhood Education have grown, as well as Resident Library, Study Groups Packages A, B, and C, and Computing for Empowerment.
 
In the economic field, various local potentials are being developed by the communities in the form of processing local raw materials into ready foods such as instant ginger, dry deblo, cassava chips, and taro lunkhead. The economic field also pioneered Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) of Sharia for the public. Meanwhile in the field of environment, a variety of community activities have emerged such as managing the household garbage, recycling programs, composting, making biopori and nutritious gardens.

"This activity has not yet come to an end, but is just beginning for an empowerment that is expected to get more and more participation and sustainable. It is for this reason that P2SDM LPPM IPB launched this mentoring or assistantship program of Posdaya," said Head of P2SDM, Dr. Pudji Muyono.
 
This training was held for two days. The first day presented the resource persons Ir. Mintarti, M.Sc., Dr. Pudji Muljono, and Ir. Yannefri Bakhtiar, M.Sc. They respectively talked about the philosophy and Operation of Posdaya, Assistantship Strategy, Developing Four Fields of Posdaya Activities, and Building a Network. The second was filled with the field trip to the Posdaya Kenanga, Sub-District of Situ Gede, District of West Bogor, Bogor Town. (Mtd)
