Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Suswono, got His Doctorate Degree from Bogor Agricultural University

Minister of Agriculture of Indonesia, Ir. Suswono who is currently a Graduate student of  Business and Management Program of Bogor Agricultural University, earned his  Doctorate degree  after he successfully defended his dessertation by responding  various questions for almost two hours in the open session on the campus of the Bogor Agricultural University, Dramaga Campus, Friday, 3 September 2010.

The open session was  chaired by Prof. Dr.Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc.,  Rector of Bogor Agricultural University. Mr. Suswono’ dissertation  was reviewed by seven examiners consisting of three members of the supervising committee, Dr. Arief Daryanto, Prof. Dr. Arifin Bustanul, and Professor (Research) Dr M Husein Sawit, two external commission examiners  for  closed session,  Prof. Dr. Ir Endang Gumbira,  and for open session,  Dr. Ir Mustafa Abubakar and Prof. Dr. Siregar Hermanto.

Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Suswono, who was in  a black suit, green tie and white striped shirt, successfully defended his dissertation on “Strategi Peningkatan Daya Saing Organisasi Logistik Pangan Nasional yang Berkelanjutan Studi Kasus Bulog” (Strategy for Increasing the Competitiveness of the National Food Logistics Organization Case Study of Sustainable Bulog).

In this 146th doctorate degree exam, Mr.  Suswono explained that to improve its competitiveness, Bulog (the National Logistic Agency) should run  its business in the following proportion:  68% (sixty eight percent) for   public service obligation (PSO); 18% (eighteen percent) for socioeconomic function, and 14% (fourteen percent) for non-PSO business, or noted as commercial.

Bulog had to set its business  strategy by  creating new innovations continuesly, "said Mr. Suswono who claimed to be the only author of dissertation who studied the corporate status of the National Logistic Agency (Bulog).

"My dissertation was designed to answer the food security problems, as we know that our sources of  staple food are limited,  such situation  cause the tough competition on the utilization o f these sources for  food, feed, and fuel," explained Suswono. (Wied).
