Expedition to Nias and Marore, IPB University Students Practice Drone Operations
The State Boundary Expedition (EBN) entered its sixth edition in 2019. EBN is a program initiated by the Student Activity Unit (UKM) of the Fauna Conservation Unit (UKF) of IPB University. In the previous EBN, the UKF had carried out expeditions to several outermost islands such as Rote Island, Rondo Island, Bras Island and Sekatung Island with support from the Indonesian Navy.
On this year's expedition, UKF in collaboration with nine other student organizations at IPB University will conduct an expedition to the Nias Islands and Marore Island. This activity is a tangible manifestation of student activities in the context of love for the Indonesian nation and the Defending the Nation.
"In preparing for this expedition, the EBN team conducted drone training to support research and documentation of activities. The purpose of this training is to provide basic skills to the EBN team in operating drones, "said Aditya Nugroho, Chair of UKMF UKM. Drone training was held at the Scientific Diving Laboratory (LAB SI) and Gymnasium of IPB University, Dramaga Campus, Bogor (1/8).
Meanwhile, according to one of the training instructors as well as a lecturer at IPB University, Beginner Subhan, the use of drones is common at this time. Beginer hopes that IPB University students are familiar with this drone technology, especially for research.
"At IPB University, many lecturers have developed and utilized drones as supporting tools in research. For example in the field of marine biology, drones are used to observe the behavior of dolphins, observing mangrove ecosystems, seagrass, and coral reefs. This is what we share with the EBN team is also to strengthen the visualization of documentation of activities, "added the marine biologist from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University.
In this training, materials such as the introduction of drone parts and components, basic techniques for using drones, utilization of drones for marine and fisheries research were delivered by Prakas Santoso as an instructor in this training.
"The most important thing that we also provide is the regulations that apply in Indonesia related to the use of drones. Furthermore, we share more experiences related to shooting techniques and videos both for research and documentation," added alumni from the Department of Marine Science and Technology ( ITK) This FPIK.
