Genomic Technology was the hot research which was being developed in the international community today. This technology could have the impact in various fields, especially the economic impact. We hereby concluded our points that Muhamad Arif Budiman, PhD, the Team Leader and Scientist of Genome Technologies, when delivering a public lecture entitled “Genomic: Manfaat dan Pengembangannya / Genomic: Benefit and Development”, was in Postgraduate Room, Campus of IPB Darmaga, (31/3). The students’ enthusiasm was very high related to this subject, seen from the number of attendees.

Arif added, this genomic technology was being developed in the developed countries such as America. Genomic could be developed for the world of medicine with the human genomic, the agricultural world, the world of animal husbandry, the computer science, and the pharmacy.

In the world of human medicine, this genomic technology could detect cancer quickly. In the agricultural world, with this science we could select the seeds that fit the needs. This had been done by Malaysia in selecting the genes of the palm plants. Likewise, the world of animal husbandry.

According to Arif, Indonesia should immediately develop this technology, if you did not want to lag behind other countries. Because according to him, it would be a lot of great impact in various fields, especially the economic impact. (dh)
