IPB students Raise “Indonesia Movement of Zero Food Waste”

Riska Amelia Mulyo, a students of the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB FEMA) again won a national essay competition in early 2016. This time, she won the 2nd place in the competition organized by the Student Association of Exact Education, Faculty of Teacher Teaching and Education, University of Lampung (Himasakta FKIP UNILA).


"This is the second award in early 2016 after the essay contest, Biology Scientific Writing Competition at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang on 23 January," she said.


This second essay competition is a series of activities called Student Show of Exact Education (Gempita) 2016 held from 23 to 25 February 2016. The theme raised is "Criticizing Leadership Model in Indonesia in Policy Making".

 

Although coming from the Community Nutrition Sciences, Riska are interested in policy issues in Indonesia. By taking the sub-theme of economy, she writes an essay titled "Indonesia Zero Food Waste Movement as Effort to Critique Leadership in Indonesia Policy Making in Economics". In her writings, she mentions food waste can result in economic loss, while the government often overcomes it with curative policies. Therefore, Riska offers a preventive solution that can be implemented easily in Indonesia.


According to Riska, by reducing food waste, Indonesia could save trillions of rupiah every year, thus, this movement needs to be done. In addition to avoiding a negative impact on the economic field, this is to participate in the movement that has been carried out by FAO since 2008.

 

"I hope there is support from all parties who are interested in this movement to be applied in the form of concrete action for a better Indonesia," said Riska. (Mtd)
