The Board of Trustees (MWA) of IPB University has announced the timeline for the election of an Interim Rector for the 2023–2028 term. This step was taken after IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday (10/15).

Following Dr Alim’s appointment as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, the IPB University University Council (MWA) held a plenary session on Friday (10/23) with a special agenda to discuss the Rector’s resignation and the establishment of procedures for the election of an interim Rector. This session was a follow up to Dr Alim’s resignation letter, which the MWA received on Thursday (10/15).

The stages of the interim Rector election are as follows:

  1. October 26: The MWA submitted a letter to the Academic Senate (SA) regarding amendments to the MWA Regulations and the Decree on the Rector’s Dismissal. The Rector’s dismissal will take effect on November 26, 2026, following the inauguration of the elected interim Rector.

  2. October 26–November 9: Selection process for interim Rector candidates in the SA.

  3. November 9: The SA submits a letter proposing candidates for the interim Rector to the MWA.

  4. November 19: The MWA holds a plenary session to elect the interim Rector for the 2023–2028 term.

  5. November 26: The MWA inaugurated the elected interim rector during the MWA Plenary Session for the Inauguration of the Interim Rector for the 2023–2028 term.

MWA Chair Prof Hardinsyah stated that coordination with the four pillars of IPB’s leadership has taken place, and consultations have also been held with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek). All stages of the interim rector election will be conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, prioritizing the principles of good governance.

“The MWA ensures that all stages of the interim rector election proceed in accordance with applicable regulations; and that decision making prioritizes deliberation and consensus. This process is important to ensure the continuity of leadership and that IPB University’s governance continues to function properly,” said Prof Hardinsyah. (*) (IAAS/LAN)
