Intan Nur Rahmadhanti, the daughter of a corn farmer in Lampung, succeeded in becoming one of IPB University’s top graduates from the Faculty of Forestry and Environment with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3,89. After completing her undergraduate studies, Intan is now preparing to enter the workforce while still holding onto her aspiration to pursue a master’s degree abroad on a scholarship.

Intan is a graduate of SMAN 1 Sukoharjo in Lampung. She was admitted to IPB University through the National Selection for Admission to Public Universities (SNMPTN). Coming from a modest family, Intan was able to pursue her education at IPB University with the support of the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) scholarship.

Parents as a “Brake” on Ambition
Her father works as a farmer, while her mother runs a small business. The support of both her parents has been one of Intan’s greatest sources of strength throughout her time at IPB University.

“Working hard, studying diligently, and excelling are indeed important, but don’t forget to take care of your health,” Intan said, recalling the message her parents always shared with her.

Intan admits she is quite an ambitious person. Because of this, her parents often act as a “brake”, reminding her not to push herself too hard.

“I’m grateful that at every step, they always try to give their best and support my decisions and dreams,” she said.

Attending college far from her parents has been one of the challenges for Intan. However, this situation has actually taught her to become more independent and to view various issues from a different perspective.

“Overall, I’m very grateful to be part of IPB University because the environment here provides plenty of opportunities to learn, grow, and develop,” she said.

Interested in Silviculture Since High School
Intan chose the Silviculture program because she had been interested in environmental sciences since high school. That interest grew even stronger when she participated in the Geography Olympiad.

As she learned more about silviculture, Intan discovered several fields that aligned with her interests, such as forest ecology, forest climate dynamics, and pedology. This made her even more certain about pursuing forestry at IPB University.

During her time as a student, Intan was active in several organizations, including the IPB Sustainable Science Research Students (SSRS) Association, the Tree Grower Community, and the International Forestry Students’ Association. She also had the opportunity to be a finalist in the IPB University Outstanding Student Award.

Her experience participating in the Rainforest Youth Summit in Sarawak, Malaysia, was one of the most memorable moments for Intan. At the event, she served not only as a delegate but also as a volunteer. It was also her first time traveling abroad, especially since she had the opportunity to participate in the program on a fully funded basis.

After graduating from IPB University, Intan hopes to begin building a career as a professional in a field aligned with her educational background and interests. While preparing for her career, she is also working toward pursuing a master’s degree abroad through a scholarship program.

In the long term, Intan aspires to start her own business and write a book about her life journey. She hopes that her story will one day inspire others to continue learning, growing, and daring to pursue their dreams, regardless of their background or limitations. (dh) (IAAS/HRD)
