IPB University Strengthens Organizational Transformation through Impactful Research, Innovation Commercialization, and Business Governance
IPB University is strengthening its organizational transformation through improved research governance, reinforced research centers, accelerated innovation downstreaming and commercialization, and enhanced business governance.
The strategic direction was conveyed by Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, during the inauguration of structural officials at the Startup Center Building, Taman Kencana Campus, Bogor, on Monday (8/11).
In his remarks, Dr Alim emphasized that the inauguration of structural officials is part of a strategic effort to strengthen the institution’s relevance and quality, accelerate its impact, and ensure the welfare and sustainability of IPB University.
“Our research orientation must shift. It is no longer simply about pursuing quantity, but about pursuing quality and real impact,” said Dr Alim during the Inauguration of Structural Officials at the Startup Center Building, Taman Kencana Campus, Bogor.
According to him, research governance utilizing IPB University’s budget will shift from a process based approach to an output based approach.
Under this approach, research success will not only be assessed based on compliance with procedures, but also on its outputs, including reputable publications, patents, applied technologies, policy recommendations, and innovations adopted by communities.
Alongside strengthening research, research centers are also encouraged to become hubs for cross disciplinary collaboration to address strategic issues, ranging from food and nutrition security, sustainable commodity management, and the halal industry to international economics, as well as tropical agricultural engineering and technology.
Dr Alim emphasized that challenges such as climate change, the blue economy, and food sovereignty cannot be addressed through disciplinary boundaries. “A transdisciplinary approach is not merely an option, but a necessity,” he stressed.
In terms of innovation downstreaming, IPB University positions the Institute for Agromaritime Development and Innopreneurship Acceleration (LPA2I) as the spearhead in developing the science techno park (STP) ecosystem while strengthening innovation, technology transfer, and community empowerment. The development of living labs in villages, coastal areas, and production centers is also part of the strategy to enable innovations to be tested and further developed together with communities.
In addition, business governance is being reorganized by separating regulatory and oversight functions from operational functions.
According to Dr Alim, this step is necessary to enable business units to operate more professionally, agilely, and with a performance-oriented approach, while ensuring institutional interests remain protected through independent oversight.
Concluding his remarks, Dr Alim called on the newly inaugurated structural officials to oversee the transformation with loyalty, constructive criticism, and concrete action.
