A total of 4.300 freshmen from IPB University’s batch 63rd, “Mahadipta Nabaskara,” successfully set a record with the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) by forming 74 different configurations using drawstring bags.

Thousands of drawstring bags were arranged into a series of giant illustrations at Gelora Field, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor, on (8/14).

IPB University Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet commended this achievement. According to him, breaking the record is not just about the award, but also demonstrates the values cultivated through a long process.

“I offer my congratulations, not only for setting the record, but also because they were able to create such a beautiful work. The courage to be creative, perseverance, resilience, discipline, and collaboration have indeed produced a truly remarkable work,” said Dr Alim.

He also expressed his appreciation to the organizing committee of the 63rd New Student Orientation Program (MPKMB) for providing a unique experience for new students through this event.

Tryono, Senior Manager of MURI Indonesia, noted that IPB University stands out for incorporating a MURI record-breaking attempt into its series of activities for new students.

“Although we have different backgrounds and aspirations, without collaboration, it would be difficult for us to move forward. This activity demonstrates that by working together, we can produce something truly extraordinary,” he said.

According to Tryono, using tote bags as a medium for the formation also conveys a message of its own. These simple items can be reused, so they don’t end up as waste after the event.

MURI then certified the record under number 12856-R.MURI/8/2026 for the category of the largest formation configuration in Indonesia using tote bags by freshmen.

Alyssa Fidelia, Chair of MPKMB 63, revealed that preparations for the record had been underway since February. The committee chose drawstring bags as the medium after a lengthy discussion process and framed the event under the theme “Breaking News Record.”

“It’s been quite a long journey, but the result is very satisfying. We want to invite ‘Sobat Dipta’ (the nickname for the Class of 63 freshmen) to reflect on IPB’s journey through its various innovations,” she said.

She hopes that the enthusiasm shown by the freshmen, who participated in simulations starting early in the morning through to the record attempt will continue throughout their academic lives at IPB University. (AS) (IAAS/KQA)
