Commemorate World Environment Day, the Alumni Association Hosts the IPB Run 2026
The IPB University Alumni Association (HA) organized the IPB Run 2026 as part of the World Environment Day celebration at the Dramaga Campus, Bogor (6/6–7). Under the theme “Sustainable for the Earth,” the event was attended by approximately 5.000 participants from various regions and served as a sporting event promoting a healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness.
On the first day, participants took part in the 5K Fun Run category, while on the second day, the 10K, Half Marathon (HM), and Full Marathon (FM) categories were held. As part of greening efforts, each participant also received a plant seedling to plant in their respective communities.
The Mayor of Bogor, Dedi A Rachim, commended IPB University’s contributions to various environmental conservation efforts and sustainable development in the City of Bogor. According to him, collaboration between local governments and universities is crucial in addressing environmental challenges, including waste management.
“Once again, we celebrate World Environment Day with the hope that IPB will continue to play a role in jointly developing waste to energy initiatives in Bogor City. Insha’Allah, starting this July, two waste to energy plants will be constructed, one in Galuga and the other in Kayumanis. Both are located not far from the IPB Dramaga Campus. Therefore, we hope that collaboration and synergy with IPB will continue to be fostered for the nation’s progress and environmental sustainability,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Rector of IPB University, Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet, stated that the IPB Run serves as an opportunity to introduce the campus to the public while raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
“It’s wonderful that the campus is wide open today, not just for the IPB family, but also for the broader public who are running together to mark World Environment Day. Enjoy the run, take in the campus, breathe in the fresh air, and feel the greenery. This is the campus we nurture and protect for Indonesia,” he said.
He also reminded participants to prioritize safety during the race. “My message is simple, prioritize safety, know your limits, look out for one another, and may everyone finish with joy and happiness, returning home with renewed spirit and a refreshed body,” he said.
Dr Alim added that this year marks a special occasion because the IPB Run will be held twice. In addition to the World Environment Day celebration, a similar event is also planned to coincide with IPB University’s anniversary at the end of the year.
Fauzi H Amro, Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of HA IPB, explained that the IPB Run is part of a collective movement to raise environmental awareness.
“Before this running event, we conducted tree-planting activities, community service projects with the Student Executive Board (BEM) and Faculty BEMs, as well as seminars on environmental issues. Today marks the culmination of these efforts through the IPB Run,” he explained.
According to Fauzi, the participants’ enthusiasm was very high. Around 2.000 participants took part in the 5K category, while thousands more participated in the 10K, half marathon, and full marathon categories. “We hope that the IPB Run can be held every year so that it becomes a regular event that gains increasing national recognition,” he said.
