IPB University Imposes Suspension Sanctions on Perpetrators of Sexual Harassment

IPB University reaffirms its commitment to creating a campus environment that is safe, dignified, and free from all forms of violence, including gender-based harassment, both online and offline. The Rector of IPB University, Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet, emphasized, “We do not tolerate or normalize any form of sexual violence under any circumstances. IPB is fully committed to strengthening systematic prevention and case handling, ensuring every process is transparent, accountable, and participatory by involving student elements. We stand with the victims—protecting, restoring, and ensuring their rights are met without compromise. The campus must be a safe, comfortable, and dignified space for the entire academic community.”

The Rector further stated, “As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, IPB University involves student participation in the handling of this case. this involvement is carried out through communication and coordination with student organizations and representatives to ensure the process is open, fair, conducted according to applicable regulations, and maintains public trust in the institution.”

Regarding the alleged case of sexual harassment conducted via private chat within a group conversation involving several students, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT) at IPB University, Prof Slamet Budijanto, has imposed sanctions on the perpetrators of sexual violence.

“Based on the team’s investigation, 16 students were identified as being involved in violations of campus life regulations and acts of sexual harassment against a female student. This incident occurred in 2024 and was officially reported to the institution on April 14, 2026,” the Dean explained.

He further noted, “Following up on the report, a team from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, together with the Campus Security, Safety, And Protection Management Office (KMKKPK), summoned the complainant on April 15, 2026. Subsequently, on April 16, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT) moved swiftly by summoning the relevant parties for further investigation and evidence collection.” Based on the examination process and available evidence, he mentioned, FTT then imposed sanctions in the form of a one-semester suspension for the 16 students proven to be involved, effective as of April 17, 2026.

“FTT IPB University emphasizes that these sanctions are given not only as a form of regulatory enforcement but also as an effort to provide a deterrent effect and strong ethical learning for the entire academic community,” he added.

The Director of Cooperation, Communication, and Marketing at IPB University, Dr Alfian Helmi, stated, “IPB University also places victim recovery as a top priority.” He detailed the steps taken, which include: restoring the victim’s rights in both academic and social aspects; providing psychological counseling and ongoing support; guaranteeing protection from pressure, intimidation, or stigma; and strengthening safe spaces for victims and whistleblowers.

He emphasized that IPB University recognizes every case is a momentum to strengthen the system. “Therefore, the institution remains committed to strengthening prevention and handling mechanisms, increasing education on ethics and equality within the campus environment, and fostering a culture of mutual respect and the courage to report. IPB University also invites the entire academic community to work together to maintain the campus as a safe, inclusive, and civilized space,” he said. (IAAS/HNF)
