Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, gave three messages to respond the changes to 489 graduates who graduated on Wednesday, 24/04 at Graha Widya Wisuda, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor. The message was mainly to hone skills for the future so as to increase competitiveness.

Rector quoted the words of James Anderson, the most successful people in the 21st century will be those who are the most responsive, the ones who can adapt in the face of disruption.

“Success in responding to change is achieved in several ways. First, by building four pillars of leadership consisting of lead the future, lead change, lead others and lead self,” said Prof Arif.

“Secondly, we also need to do reskilling needs because the competence we have today, in the next five years 65 per cent of that competence will no longer be relevant. If we are not able to reskilling and upskilling then we will be outdated,” he said.

He continued, large companies relatively do not trust universities, so IPB University created a microcredential, a certificate of competence for reskilling purposes that can be used in the realm of work.

“We have prepared 17,000 microcredential user accounts for undergraduate and diploma students. This programme can provide added value to IPB University graduates with 21,500 microcredential courses provided on LinkedIn Learning, Coursera and Udemy,” explained Prof Arif.

“If 50 per cent of IPB University students take microcredentials, then these students can be highly competitive compared to graduates of other universities,” he added.

The third message, Prof Arif asserted that these efforts need to be supported with a growth mindset and practice future practice, so that IPB University graduates can become agile learners as well as trendsetters and future leaders in various fields.

Dr Walneg S Jas, Chairman of the Alumni Association (HA) IPB University congratulated the graduates. He welcomed the graduates who had officially become alumni and members of HA IPB University.

“As a role model for other universities, we hope that alumni can contribute to creating a legacy,” he said.

“In order to support the achievement of the Golden Indonesia 2045, Indonesia needs the contribution of intellectuals to accompany the struggle and development of the nation, there are still many tasks that need to be completed. Therefore, all graduates of IPB University do not remain silent and contribute actively and positively wherever we are,” he concluded. (IAAS/RUM)
