Attending MPKMB 63 at the School of Vocational Studies, West Java Governor Encourages New Students to Step Out of Their Comfort Zones
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi encouraged new students of the School of Vocational Studies (SV) IPB University to step out of their comfort zones. He also assured them that financial difficulties should not become a barrier to pursuing higher education. The message was delivered by the figure popularly known as Kang Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) during the 63rd Campus Introduction for New Students (MPKMB) 63 at SV IPB University on (8/12).
With a relaxed and humorous approach, KDM began the interaction by asking about various aspects of student life, from housing costs and semester fees to their aspirations after graduation. He encouraged students to dream big by asking who among them aspired to become a minister or even a governor.
KDM then highlighted the issue of education costs. He stated that students with strong qualifications and achievements who come from economically disadvantaged families should still be given the opportunity to pursue higher education.
“I will provide full funding until graduation for 50 high achieving students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds,” he said firmly.
Discussing Energy and Food
Beyond education, KDM encouraged students to think about utilizing the energy resources available in nature. He discussed solar and wind energy as potential sources that could be harnessed to meet the electricity needs of communities.
One of the ideas discussed was the development of roof tiles capable of storing solar energy. The idea was linked to the construction of housing for low income communities. According to him, utilizing solar energy could be one way to help communities meet their electricity needs while reducing their financial burden.
His visit to IPB University also provided an opportunity to engage in dialogue with students, including discussions on Indonesia’s food challenges. Climate change, human resources, traditional agricultural practices, limited land availability, and the condition of natural resources were among the key topics discussed.
“These various issues need to be observed and considered by the younger generation. Students are not only expected to complete their education, but also need to develop concern for the issues around them,” he said.
Through his interaction with students participating in MPKMB 63 at SV IPB University, KDM emphasized the importance of having the courage to take action, caring for society, and being willing to seek solutions to challenges in education, energy, and food. (Ez) (IAAS/CAA)
