IPB University Postgraduate Students Increase 20 Percent, This is the Rector’s Message

The Postgraduate School (SPs) of IPB University held a Public Lecture to welcome new students for the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The lecture was held in a hybrid manner in the Academic Senate Room, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor. This public lecture was attended by new students of doctoral, master and professional engineer programmes.

Rector of IPB University, Prof Arif Satria, welcomed the new students of SPs IPB University. According to him, the momentum is a very important opportunity to contribute, both scientific development and self-development.

"Currently we are faced with a situation where change has become a necessity, so we will continue to develop the latest sciences. Self-development to become a fast, agile and resilient learner must continue. We must be able to become leaders of change and be able to quickly respond to change," he said.

Prof Arif Satria explained that research and innovation from SPs are eagerly awaited in order to really contribute in proving that current sciences have developed. SPs is expected to not only be a follower of science, but also one day become a producer of sciences, theories and concepts.

"So far we have become consumers of innovations and concepts that are partly produced by others. I am sure that together with SPs IPB University we can jointly contribute and real work needed in the form of innovation. Because if innovation is high, it will usually provide support for economic development," he explained.

Meanwhile, Dean of SPs IPB University, Prof Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat said that the admission of new students in the odd semester of 2023 was carried out in three stages. The number of students enrolled this year increased by 20 per cent compared to the number of students accepted in the odd semester of 2022.

"This year there are 1,832 master programme students and 553 doctoral programme students accepted through SPs IPB University admissions, making a total of 2,415 new students accepted. Currently there are 6,567 active students spread across 56 master study programmes and 43 doctoral study programmes," he explained.

Prof Dodik added that SPs IPB University has a long history since its establishment. Currently, the internationalisation of higher education through student and lecturer mobility, both joint degrees and double degrees continues to be carried out. Some of them are approved with funding through the Ministry of Finance's Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) scholarship.

"Now IPB University has more than 50 research and education consortiums, so SPs IPB University encourages and facilitates students to participate in international programmes that have been formed," he said.

Dr Alue Dohong, Vice Minister of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) delivered a public lecture on sustainable and prosperous natural resource and environmental management strategies. According to him, natural resource management must be done wisely and responsibly in order to fulfil the needs of current and future generations without damaging the environment.

"The quality of life, the quality of the environment is not only enjoyed by us today, but also by future generations," he said.

The Public Lecture was preceded by a symbolic handover of the results of the Development of Policy Recommendation for Carbon Credit's Secondary Market and Trading System Guidelines study in collaboration between IPB University and the United Nations Development Programme. (HBL/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
