The Social and Environmental Division of the Agrometeorology Student Association (Himagreto) IPB University organized the No Plastic Waste Movement, some time ago. The activity was located behind the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).

Ghaly, the person in charge of the movement, said that the activity was carried out by exchanging plastic waste in the form of plastic bottles, plastic cups, and straws for a package of takjil. Participants who bring plastic waste in excess of the provisions given by the committee are entitled to participate in a game with prizes. The prizes provided by the committee are cloth tote bags and drinking bottles.

"This program is an effort to create a better environment in the future. It is also a form of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially goal 13, which is addressing climate change," Ghaly said.

He added that this activity is part of the work program of the Environmental Love Movement (Gertakan) which has become the annual agenda of the Himagreto Social and Environmental Division. This activity is intended for all active students of the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology.

"Hopefully, this activity can be organized in a sustainable manner and can be applied not only during this activity but in everyday life as well," said Ghaly.

He revealed that the amount of plastic waste collected in this activity was five plastic garbage bags. The plastic waste was then sorted according to its type. Then some of the plastic waste will be exchanged to the bottle exchange machine and the rest will be distributed to the waste bank.

"The activity is expected to increase awareness related to plastic waste to the environment and foster awareness to manage waste," he hoped.

The enthusiasm of the students of the Department of Geophysics and Meteorology in participating in this activity was quite high as evidenced by the arrival of participants who took turns until the end of the event.

"What a cool activity. It is rare to find an activity that exchanges waste for food. This activity also gives a message to us to get used to minimizing plastic waste by starting to use non-disposable food and beverage containers," said one of the IPB University students, Shatilla.

In addition, she said, the game she participated in provided a lot of new knowledge about the environment. She hopes that this step can continue to be preserved, benefited by fellow students and become an example to always care about the environment. (*/Rz) (IAAS/NVA)
