Four students from the Department of Marine Science and Technology IPB University won the 1st place in the Youth Innovation 2022 Indonesian Crab Management Association (APRI) activity. In this event IPB University Team won the category "Best Presentation Team" and "Best Video Competition APRI Youth", ( 27/2).

The students are Siti Zanuba Aisyah, Rizky Sabrina Maharani, Irgi Fadilah Rahman, and Nail Radhy Ilyas under the guidance of Dr Beginer Subhan. "Of course we feel proud and did not expect to get the award as the first place in this event. We learned and struggled for many things while participating in APRI Youth Innovation 2022. Thank you very much for the prayers and support, both from the supervisors, team, friends and parties involved. Hopefully, hereafter there are many students will take part in this event," said Aisyah, as the team leader.

In this activity, the IPB University team chaired by Siti Zanuba Aisyah explained the potential linkages of the mangrove ecosystem in Tanjung Widoro waters which are thought to have an influence on the blue swimming crab as a caretaker and place to live.

"Small crab is one of the potential fisheries commodities. So it is necessary to pay attention to its sustainability. The mangrove ecosystem does not only play a role in preventing abrasion. However, many benefits can be obtained from the existence of a mangrove ecosystem, one of which is a place to live and a care area for various biota," said Aisyah.

According to her, Tanjung Widoro waters have extensive mangrove forests and its so close to the crab fishing location. So, it is suspected that this mangrove ecosystem has an effect on the blue swimming crab as a place to live. Therefore, its needs preservation efforts to preserve mangrove ecosystems to support sustainable crab fisheries.

According to Dr Beginner, APRI Youth Innovation 2022 takes place from August to November 2022 and is attended by 5 selected teams that have successfully passed the research funding proposal selection. APRI then held a results seminar as a form of delivering research results through a zoom meeting.

"This activity was not only attended by APRI Youth Innovation participants, but also general students, the community, government agencies, companies engaged in fisheries and maritime affairs," he said. He added, APRI continues to strive to improve Indonesian crab fisheries through various activities, one of which is APRI Youth Innovation. This activity has been going on for four years involving various students from all universities in Indonesia. The APRI results seminar is the last series of APRI Youth Innovation 2022 activities. Of course, the end of this activity is not the end for the APRI Youth Innovation 2022 Team.

"Hopefully the APRI Youth Innovation 2022 team will not stop here. However, the enthusiasm in helping efforts to increase sustainable crab fisheries from various fields will continue into the future," said Hengky, one of the results seminar participants. (*/Zul) (IAAS/HAP)
