A number of IPB University student representatives distributed aid and worked together to clean up the flood-affected area in Pasir Madang Village, Sukajaya District, Bogor (16/1). The activity is a program of IPB Cares Student Family (KM). Previously, a similar action was also carried out in Jatiasih Sub-district, Bekasih on January 5, 2020.

KM IPB Peduli is a program initiated by the Student Executive Board of the Student Family (BEM KM) of IPB University with the main executor being the Ministry of Social and Community Affairs (Sosmas) of BEM KM IPB University. In the program BEM KM IPB University collaborated with the Independent Volunteer Action (ARM) which is an autonomous institution of the Alumni Association (HA) of IPB.

In the community action, KM IPB University carried out several activities including raising donations from IPB students, distributing aid from the fundraising to victims, and participating in community service activities to clean up areas affected by flooding.

The Minister of Social and Community of BEM KM IPB University, Farhan Fadhlillah said, this activity was carried out in order to present the role of students as part of the higher education element in an effort to realize social welfare of the community, and encourage students to uphold the practice of one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely serving to the community.

Farhan also explained, in the process of distributing aid, the KM IPB Care team was not free from obstacles. “The obstacle experienced is the condition of the terrain that is passed by is always changing its conditions and several times becomes a barrier to accessing the location. Just like yesterday at Sukajaya, there was one land rover that slipped and there were some who broke into the sewers, and when it came down in the field, the conditions were different from the assessment carried out, so we had to re-coordinate with the person in charge there, ” he added.

The IPB University student also claimed that there was a touching moment in the distribution process. At that time residents around the pesantren in the local area, who were found along the road greeted with a crowd and then thanked the aid providers who passed. It made KM IPB Cares’s delegation team feel a close kinship there.

He also hopes that many parties can be involved in dealing with this problem. “Don’t be afraid to take part even with insufficient capacity, because actually there is a lot that can be helped from small things,” he concluded. (IAAS/NAS)
