Meet at IPB University, Experts Discuss Transdisciplinary Collaboration for the Development of Capture Fisheries
The Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of IPB and the Capture Fisheries Partnership Communication Forum (FK2PT) held the 8th National Capture Fisheries Seminar with the theme "The Direction of Future Capture Fisheries Development: Transdisciplinary Approach to Capture Fisheries Development." Sustainability "at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor 17/10.
This theme is a response to the latest national and regional capture fisheries developments that require attention from various groups, both academics, business and government, and community groups.
Rector of IPB University, Dr. Ir. Arif Satria stressed the importance of research and collaboration transdisciplinary. "IPB already has a concept going forward for Agromaritim, all must be based on technology that involves different sciences. The new concept of IPB is Agromaritim 4.0. In this concept, the sea and land become one unit. For this reason, it is important to have an eco-region and spatial planning upstream to downstream, "explained the Chancellor. The Chancellor further said, this concept cannot be done with monodisciplinary, but must be transdisciplinary.
It is important to know that capture fisheries play an important role in the world economy, primarily as a source of protein food, the livelihoods of coastal communities and small islands, and also as evidence of sovereignty in water areas. The role of capture fisheries that cannot be replaced by other activities requires a comprehensive and transdisciplinary approach in order to realize the sustainable use of resources.
Dr. Ir M Fedi A Sondita, MSc, Chair of the Organizing Committee also stressed that
the urgency of transdisciplinary in the development of sustainable capture fisheries is based on concerns over the diminished status of fish resources due to overexploitation caused by weak policies from decision-makers and the attitudes of businesspeople in various developed and developing countries.
"Steps that must be taken, such as the application of the use of advanced technology that is appropriate to be applied, awareness and insight of fishers and consumers on environmental problems, improvement in the capacity of fishermen to adapt to new problems that arise, synergies between economic sectors and new approaches in developing policies fisheries and marine affairs and governance as well as the joint efforts of various stakeholders (not just one ministry) are needed to fight for the realization of sustainable fisheries, "explained Dr. Fedi.
