IPB University Students Map Cultural Potential in the Gegesik Cirebon
IPB University students who are conducting a 2019 Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) in Gegesik Lor Village, Gegesik District, Cirebon, do a mapping of the cultural potential in the art village. The Gegesik District itself will be declared by the Cirebon government as a “Village of Arts” because its art and culture is still sustainable even in the midst of the current modernization.
Students map out village potential in three different hamlets that are the center of art and culture. There is the Singa Depok art and the Sri Nagasari Studio which are incorporated in the Weringin Jajar Circle in the second hamlet, while in the third hamlet there is the Dalang Timbul Studio and the Singa Singa Storage Center.
“Currently, the construction of the People’s Art Building (GKR) Village of Gegesik Lor, Gegesik District, Cirebon Regency is also under construction. The Cirebon Regency Government established the Gegesik District as an Art Area. The reason is that in the local village there are many well-known and sustained folk arts such as sintren, rudat, bandan and wayang so that the place is suitable for preserving art. The existence of the art building will later reinforce the existence of Gegesik as an area or village of art,” said Gilbertus Bayu, IPB University student. (RYS)
