Community nutrition problems popular among Indonesians nowadays is stunting. Stunting is a condition experienced by children who fail to develop more in their body and brain. That is because the lack of nutrition in a long period of time. The impact can be seen with their child stunting is shorter than a normal child his age. In addition, children also have a delay in thinking.

Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) 2018 conducted by the Agency for Health Research and Development (Research) suggests that the rate of stunting in Indonesia in 2018 dropped to 30.8 percent.

Previously, stunting figure reached 37.2 percent in 2013. Although the number is decreasing, efforts to address stunting in Indonesia need special attention.

Senator Abelio Napitupulu, students from the Department of Community Nutrition, Faculty of Human Ecology, Bogor Agricultural University (FEMA IPB) won the third place in the National Nutrition Olympiad (N2O) in the competition in the Sci-Fi Neutron 2019 at Gajah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta (15 -18/3). Sci-Fi theme Neutron 2019 Prevention Strategy Stunting in Indonesia through 1000 First Days of Birth Program (HPK).

Abel admits that by following this competition, he can meet a lot of students from various universities. In addition, Abel challenged to be able to regulate the management time as possible during the competition. This is because in the N2O it is crucial to be able to interpret the journals given during the competition.

N2O Competition, Sci-Fi Neutron 2019 is an individual Olympic with nutritional information and is divided into three stages (regional final, grandfinal). Abel passed the regional stage during the Olympics held in IPB. During the grandfinal stage, Abel explained that the fruit has been processed (such as juice) appeared to have a higher nutrient content.

“Eating three whole fruit may make consumers bored or ‘nauseated’. However, by processing fruit into juice can be a choice that consumers do not ‘feel sick’ and more easily digested by the digestive organs, “he added.

In addition to Abel, Ni Ketut Susila Dharma Asih of the Department of Community Nutrition, FEMA IPB won first place in the same event. During the grandfinal, she discusses the Nutritious Food Supplement Benefit Program or “Nutritious Supplemental Assistance Program” is commonly abbreviated with SNAP applied in America. SNAP is an allowance for people who live in poverty in order to remain able to meet the food and nutrition needs.

Sila expressed that SNAP program includes a great program. However, benefits provided are not yet sufficient and not well targeted. Furthermore, benefits in the SNAP program can only be used at certain stores (AVR).
