IPB Himakua Releases 340 Brood Nirvana Tilapias Fishes in Assisted Village

Social and Environment Division of Aquaculture Student Organization (Himakua), IPB University held a village assistance with the title ‘Aquaculture Village Assistance (Akuabindes)’ in Sukadamai Village, RW 04/RT 03, Dramaga Sub-District, Bogor (24/3). In this Akuabindes, the students released 340 third-generation brood nirvana tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus) and fish feed to farmers group in the village.

Third-generation nirvana tilapia is a superior variety which is the result of family selection done in Tilapia and Gold Fish Aquaculture Development Center, Wanayasa. The release is related with this year’s target, which is community empowerment in building tilapia breeding business to improve people’s livelihood.

“Akuabindes’ purpose is to improve the welfare of Sukadamai people through aquaculture. Our target this year is education about breeding,” said Ferian Afrinaldo, the convener. The event consists of a discussion about nirvana tilapia by IPB Aquaculture Department’s lecturers, followed by the release of the fishes in people’s ponds.

One of the village’s apparatus, Didin, admitted the benefits about Akuabindes. Didin hopes that Akuabindes could make a difference between the assisted farmers’ groups and those who don’t.

“The assisted farmers’ group could assist other farmers’ group,” he said. (Ard)
