IPB Discussion: Feed Factories Find Difficulties in Obtaining Corn

Corn is the main component in the feed industry. The composition of maize in poultry feed reaches 50-55 percent. Corn for feed needs should be met from domestic production. In fact, feed mills trouble getting corn that match the criteria of poultry and there are indications of a certain mastery of corn on a node in the supply chain. This was revealed in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the theme "The Role of Logistics System for Corn in Feed Raw Material Supply National". Dr. Edy explained on the structuring of distribution and logistics centers of production to centers of feed mills. According to the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) serves to buy maize directly at the farm level.

According to him, feed logistics system must begin with a model or system and an efficient farm business scale (extensive and intensive) that is based on mapping of potential feed resources, ecological suitability, appropriateness and suitability of the region carrying capacity of government policy.
