Achievement

Again, a proud achievement was present from students of Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (FMIPA IPB). They are Yudasril, Imas Saumi Amalia and Alfiyyah Hasanah.

All three participated in Scientific Paper Competition which was held by Association of Mathematics Students, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) (2-3/11). Competition titled “Role and Application of Mathematics in Realizing Sustainability Development Goals”.

“Mathematics has important role in every line of life, especially in welcoming the realization of SDGs. Therefore, we brought up the graf concept as the strategic step to provide electricity access to which is optimal and efficient by utilizing renewable energy source. Specifically, for several areas in Alor Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). We chose Alor region because based on data we obtained, number of people who can use electricity is still relatively low. This work is addressed to support Minister of Energy and Mineral Resoirce (ESDM) realizing Bright Indonesia Program (PIT),” explained Yudasril as Team Leader.

According to him, geographical condition of Alor Regency which consists of several small islands and there is a considerable distant between one residential area with another which causes electrical power development in Alor Regency inefficient and spent expensive cost. However, on the other side, Alor Regency has natural resource in form of water area which can be utilized as electricity source, that is Alor Strait.

“Well, to determine the optimal solution of that problem, we used prim algorithm which is a part of graf concept we learned at the fourth semester in IPB. At first, we had a doubt on the idea we brought because it was constrained by the data needed. But we keep optimistic if the idea we come up with will be beneficial. And now this idea became the first winner,” added Yudasril. (qa)
