Livening Up Dies Natalis, IPB Students Holds Indonesian Agriculture Students Scientific Week
Forum for Scientific Studies (Forces) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), in coordination with IPB Agrisymphony 2018 committees held Indonesian Agriculture Students Scientific Week (PIMPI). PIMPI is an annual scientific paper competition for Indonesian students. This year’s PIMPI upheld the theme “Agriculture Sector Roles in Realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). Agriculture has an important and significant contribution towards SDG target and purposes fulfillment. Improving welfare and fighting poverty are the roles of agriculture that directly correlate with SDG’s, so agriculture is a prominent sector in sustainable development. PIMPI was held as a platform for students that want to give their creative ideas in the form of scientific paper as a solution for the problems in Indonesian agriculture.
There were 260 paper abstracts registered in PIMPI 2018. After the selection process, 15 papers came through as finalists and had the chance to be presented in IPB. Besides the presentation, the finalists also joined Agritrip to Gabungan Kelompok Tani Mandiri Jaya in Cikarawang village which had the purpose to introduce agricultural activities in a wider scope, especially in business sector.
After the selection process and a quite long sequence of events, the first place of PIMPI 2018 was bestowed to Universitas Sumatera Utara, the second place to Universitas Brawijaya, and the third place to Universitas Jember. The fourth place was given to Universitas Gunadarma, while the fifth place was given to Poltekkes Pontianak. Aside from the top five, there were also category-based prizes. The Best Poster category was won by Universitas Brawijaya, while the Best Presentation category was triumphed by UIN Sunan Gunung Jati Bandung.
The works and ideas by PIMPI finalists are expected to provide a solution for problems in Indonesian agriculture. “PIMPI has been conducted annually for seven years and keeps on improving, in terms of participation and the solution offered for the existing problems. Some works by the finalists succeeded in agricultural business sector and are potential to be improved in a big scale. The tight competition in this scientific paper writing contest is a likely situation because the papers submitted were so interesting and varying. This is a form of IPB commitment to accommodate Indonesian agriculture students’ creative ideas,” said Ginanjar Retno Saputra as the Project Officer of PIMPI 2018. (Ard)
