Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik, Lecturer of IPB Sharia Economics, won the Best Sharia Awards
Lecturer of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik won the 2018 Best Sharia Awards in the Academic category from Investor Magazine. He was awarded this award because he succeeded in bringing many innovations to Sharia economics. One of them is the making of CI-BEST Model which is used to measure poverty and welfare index based on Sharia economics.
Department of Sharia Economics, where Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik teaches is one of the relatively young majors at IPB. However, various works from this department have been proven to be acceptable to the community. Not only being a lecturer, Dr. Irfan also serves as Head of the Center for Business and Economic Studies of Sharia (CI-BEST) IPB.
Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik was considered active in conducting research and application of Sharia economics, especially in the study of zakat, infaq, and waqf (ziswaf). His work in the world of ziswaf is also known for his contribution to the Center for Strategic Studies of the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). The National Zakat Index (IZN) compiled by him is a major breakthrough to regulate zakat management in Indonesia so that it is transparent and measurable in data. It also has a major influence on the national zakat policy and even the world of international zakat.
"It's not just academic interests, I'm trying to expand the results of these sharia economic studies to be practiced in the field so as to provide tangible benefits. Like this IZN, it turns out that for the first time in the world and other countries came to Indonesia to study it," said Dr. Irfan.
During his work in the world of Sharia economics, Dr. Irfan has produced ten books, dozens of journals, speakers in 40 countries, and wrote more than 300 articles in the mass media. " I will continue to work on the activities to develop Sharia economics, what is going on right now is the study of agricultural and marine advocacy through zakat. The results of this study can be a guide in determining the zakat policy especially for the profession of farmers and fishermen in Indonesia, "explained Dr. Irfan
In the presentation of Investor Awards 2018, KH. Shalahuddin Al-Ayyubi, M.Si as the recipient of the Best Sharia Awards category for scholars. In the event, there were also various sharia financial institutions which were included in the award nominations of various other categories. The judging involved Sharia economics experts, sharia economic policymakers, and media crews.
"I’m very grateful to be able to receive this award and it is an obligation for me to continue to work, preach, and carry the name of IPB and the Department of Sharia Economics to be more useful for the community," he said.
