IPB Students Empower Disadvantaged Villages with One Village One Product
One of the problems of literacy education in Indonesia is the number of illiterate people in their teens. In 2016, the data of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) RI states that illiteracy-free figures in the country reached 97.93 percent so that 2.07 percent or 3.4 million people still do not know the letters and are able to read. This is still a sad reality for Indonesian education. Whereas education, especially literacy education is an important instrument in the framework of improving the social, economic, and cultural conditions of the community. Literacy education not only teaches the ability to read, write and count (calistung), but also the utilization of learning outcomes for life.
In response, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students creates a creative program to increase the illiteracy-free figures of Indonesian society through the Literacy Sheet program, a literacy literacy movement to create a productive and proactive society.
Script Sheet is a community that has a spirit of dedication that focuses on solving the problem of literacy education in Indonesia. This IPB student team conducts social, cultural, and entrepreneurship (socioculturepreneurship) empowerment for backward village with one village one product concept.
Literacy Program is initiated and realized by five students of IPB namely Deri Siswara, Alfia Shinta Nurul Aini, Zalfa Maulidia Ihsani, Moh Mulya Agniya, and Vinka Marisa Putri. They join the Student Creativity Program (PKM) team in the field of Community Service and guided directly by Salahuddin El Ayyubi, Lc. M.A.
Deri and his colleagues use the REFLECT (Regenerated Frerian Literacy through Empowering Community Techniques) method, which is a community empowerment method by tutors that shows a unifying process between literacy and community empowerment and added cultural values. The program is aimed at productive age communities such as children, adolescents and adults so that they can become a productive society.
"Script Sheet has been applied in Kampung Jambu Manis Area, Sukaraksa Village, Cigudeg District, Bogor Regency, West Java. This area of ??high population density is quite high. This village has many illiterate people, dropout children at the elementary level and some school-aged children have never attended formal school at all. Many children who took to the streets became singers and even hired to beg for donations, "says Deri.
The method they use maximizes potential through collaboration between the conditions of society and literacy education. In addition to educating the script, they also introduce the entrepreneurial spirit because the economic approach is the most appropriate innovation. One village one product is entrepreneurial based program by creating product to be marketed to society which is promoted through media of script script. (NR)
