IPB Scientific Journal Gets Grant at the Sinta Award 2018

Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) Republic of Indonesia held SINTA (Science and Technology Index) Award (4/7). SINTA is a mode for data collection, mapping and performance measurement of publications, citations, intellectual property of research results and community service for dissemination and recognition of research performance of Indonesia.
It is undeniable that scientific publications include quantity and citation being one of the indicators in university rankings around the world. The event that took place in the building of Kemenristekdikti Jakarta was a form of appreciation of efforts in encouraging the increase of publications and journals in Indonesia. Appeared to be present on this occasion were Kemenristekdikti officials, university chancellors, researchers and various government agencies.
Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Mohamad Nasir in his opening speech said that the current scientific publication plays an important role as a proof of scientific responsibility of research results so that it can be widely known globally.
Muhammad Dimyati, Director General of Research and Development Reinforcement, Kemenristekdikti, explained that until June 22, 2018 Indonesia's scientific publications at the ASEAN level based on data in Scopus were 12,233. This number occupies the second position after Malaysia with 12,492 and has surpassed Singapore with 9,543.
"The gap between Indonesia and Malaysia is running low, only 259 publications, compared to four years ago, the difference could reach more than 20,000 publications. This means there is tremendous progress for Indonesian publications. Both in terms of number of documents and document growth. However, the quality of writing needs to be continuously improved," he said.
The SINTA Award is given for 3 major categories, (1) award for Research and Development Institution/Universities, (2) award for Individual Researcher, and (3) award for Journal Manager, covering 20 detailed sub-categories which were made based on policy implementation conducted by stakeholders from universities and research and development institutions.
The award is given to lecturers, researchers, institutions and journal managers who have shown distinct achievements in the improvement of publications and scientific journals.
"Until June 26, 2018, more than 109.000 lecturers, 4.530 institutions, 2.066 journals, 9.905 books and 1.445 intellectul properties that have been entered in Sinta based on the results of verification, accreditation and evaluation have registered," said Dimyati.
In addition, Kemenristekdikti real manifestation in encouraging the increase of publications and journals is to provide grants and incentive with the amount of Rp 28,769,350,000 into 9 categories: International Journal Database Access Help, Overseas Seminar Aid, International Scientific Conference Aid, Incentive for Published Articles in International Journal, Textbook Writing Grant, Incentive for Published Textbook, Electronic Journal Management Assistance, Incentive for Accredited Journal, and Incentive for Reputable International Indexed Journal.
Bambang Purwoko, Chairman of the Board of Editors for Indonesia Horticultural Journal, represented 25 grantees for accredited journals management, received grants directly from the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education symbolically.
"Jurnal Hortikultura Indonesia is published by Indonesian Horticulture Association and Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, IPB. Tonight we represent 25 grantees for the management of accredited journals," he said.
He added that the management of journals is a major program mainly related to the strengthening of research. There are various categories award in this SINTA Award. IPB got the 4th rank for the highest publication productivity category of PTN-BH Institution (State University of Legal Entity) and 5th rank in the category of institution with the most journal indexed in SINTA," he said.
