HOPE, Waste Bank Equipped with IPB Waste Processing Machine
Bogor Agricultural University student (IPB), Praditya Ariyadi, Ginanjar Adi Triono, Dewi Setyo Anggraeni, Fauzan Azhari Priambudi, and Bachtiar Zulfikar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biosystem, Faculty of Agricultural Technology, and accompanied by a supervisor. Slamet Widodo, STP, M.Sc performs community service activities in the field of plastic waste processing to increase the added value on the plastic waste. This activity was carried out at Melati Melati Bank, Babakan Village, RT 01 / RW 11, Bubulak Village, Bogor, West Java. This activity belongs to the Student Creativity Program in Community Service (PKM M) in 2018.
According to Praditya, the lack of awareness of the problems caused by plastic waste, and the lack of public knowledge of the potential waste that can be processed to be a value-added product, then his team has the idea to establish this House of Plastic (HOPE). The purpose is to increase people's insight in utilizing plastic waste into products that can be sold and value added by using waste processing machines. According to him, this plastic waste processing machine can produce several types of products with plastic base materials, such as plastic containers that can be used for planting media, or plastic tubs.
"For the first step of PKM M, we run garbage treatment at Melati waste bank in Kampung Babakan. Here we provide knowledge about plastic waste, ranging from the impact of plastic waste, to processing plastic waste into products that have a selling value that can improve the economy of the surrounding community, "said Praditya.
Praditya explained that Garbage Garbage Bank has two plastic waste processing tools, which consists of chopsticks and plastic reprocessing tools. Both devices are square with dimensions of 25 x 30 x 110 centimeters for the counter, and 25 x 30 x 130 centimeters for the printer. For the printer, there are three types of molds, namely tub-shaped, cover, and a place for planting medium for floating hydroponics raft. "The trash needed to make one mold shape depends on the type of product to be made. If the products to be made in large size, then the amount of waste needed will also be more, "said Praditya.
"People around this garbage bank are able to operate this tool independently and sustainably, they can make a product of economic value with this tool, so that with this program can reduce the environmental pollution caused by plastic waste, and also can increase the income of the surrounding community," Praditya said.
According to him, at the time of the introduction of this tool the enthusiasm of citizens is very high and very interested to try it, and according to them a program like this is the first time held in the village. "We hope the spirit of the community to care about the surrounding environment is increasing again, and with the Bank of Melati Garbage equipped with this waste processing tool can be an example or a pioneer for garbage banks elsewhere," added Praditya.
