Be Fond of Hacking, IPB Student Won The First Place of Capture The Flag
Began with the high curiosity, Maulvi Alfansuri started to pursue the hacking world since he is studying in Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (Dept. Ilkom FMIPA IPB). His hacking skill has already get some awards. One of them is The First Place of Capture The Flag in JOINT Competition 2018 which was held by Gadjah Mada university (UGM) some time ago with Zaki Geyan and Usman A Halim. Maulvi told that his hacking skill was gained from one of the extracurricular students clubs in Department of Computer Science FMIPA IPB, that is Cyber Security of IPB.
“At the beginning when I was in the freshman year, I started to learn coding and programming. At Department of Computer Science IPB, there is one community that I think is cool, because its selection entry requires us to do hacking first. At first, I just wanted to try, but now I think that my skill is belong here. Plus I have a high curiosity. In here, I learned about how security works. Then we also competed in some hacking competitions, but this is the first time I won the first place,” Maulvi said.
His hacking skill is not made Maulvi become a disruptive hacker. Instead by hacking, he can give advantages to the website owner. “The advantage is we will able to identify the weakness of a system and how to build a secured system. Generally as learning platform, we hack a website to find the system weakness of the website. Thereafter we report to the website owner to fix their system. Because one of my aspiration is to be a good security researcher and digital detective and not to harm others,” Maulvi explained. By his hacking skill, Maulvi gained many new precious experiences. Maulvi also shared a little bit about tips and trick to become a skillful and useful hacker.
“I first traveled out of town and province by joining these hacking competitions. I keep trying, then there will be a time when we get what we expect. Actually the main asset to learn hacking is the willing to fiddle. We have to keep updated with the news in internet about technology, and where there is a will, there is a way. In addition, for hackers, try to get yourself together first, learn on the right path and seek fortune with the right way,” he implied. (qa)
