Prof. Hanny Wijaya, a professor of Food Science and Technology at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), was selected as an honorary member of IAFoST (International Academy of Food Science and Technology) in 2018. This year's inauguration will be held during IUFoST (International Union of Food Science and Technology) congress in Mumbai, India, on 23-27 October 2018.

Prof. Hanny is the only representative from Indonesia. Representatives were recommended by the Indonesian Food Technology Experts Association (PATPI) after the screening phase.

"At first I did not expect much to be selected because the other nominated friends have a great track record as well. I was very happy when I heard that I passed the selection process. This prestigious award is certainly a pride, because it means that my works are admitted. I also thank to everyone for helping me because it is impossible for me to get this award without others' help. This award is the beginning of my duties to provide my best and to be more professional in my field," as stated Prof. Hanny, expressing her gratefulness.

The selection of Prof Hanny as a part of lAFoST cannot be separated from her dedication in food science and technology, especially in creating various innovations. In 2018, Prof. Hanny holds an important position in her institution as well as in various associations related to her expertise. Among some of her important duties include serving as Head of Food Chemistry Division, Hokkaido University Ambassador, President of Indonesian Society for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals (ISFFN), President of Indonesian Flavor and Fragrance Association (AFFI), as well as a researcher at Biopharmaca Research Center and Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Science and Technology (SEAFAST) Center of IPB.

Prof. Hanny had dedicated herself to the education of the nation's children since she was graduated from the university in 1982. For approximately 36 years, she became an educator and scientist in the field of food science and technology.

Prof. Hanny, the innovator of Cajuputs candy, conveyed the principles of her life. The first is not to be successful over the failures of others. The second is to do everything wholeheartedly and in totality. The third is to love our work accompanied by honesty and commitment. "I do not want to only be a servant who does something because of orders. There must be a spirit to work as much as possible in accordance with the abilities and accompanied by the spirit of innovation. In addition, we must always be persistent in order to be useful for ourselves and for others," she added. These principles keep being a motivation for her to work, although it cannot be denied that there will always be a problem due to the condition of Indonesia's infrastructure which is still limited.

Her expertise in food science and technology has earned her an abundant offer to serve overseas. "I prefer to give my dedication to Indonesia which is my birthplace. For me, it is better to be miserable in my own country than to be great in other countries but only as a guest," Prof. Hanny shared her spirit of nationality. (SMH/ZSP/ris)
