Fieldtrip of Students of the School of the Graduate Studies, of Bogor Agricultural University (SPS IPB) to BUTTMKP
A total of 16 students of Postharvest Technology Study Program, of the School of the Graduate Studies, of Bogor Agricultural University (SPS IPB) conducted Fieldtrip to the Balai Uji Terap Teknik Metode Karantina Pertanian (BUTTMKP Agricultural Quarantine Applied Technique Test Method Center), of the Ministry of Agriculture, Citerup, Bekasi, on Wednesday, 11 April 2018. The group was accompanied by two lecturers.
BUTTMKP is one of the government agencies that responsible to prevent entry or spread of Quarantine Animal Disease Pest (HPHK) and Quarantine Plant Organism (OPTK) and HPHK (Quarantine Animal Pests and Diseases) into the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) and the spread of an area to other areas within the territory of the State of Indonesia itself. Animal pests and diseases are a major threat to Indonesia's livestock and poultry industries and an outbreak could impact on our access to export markets and undermine livelihoods. There is an ongoing need to practice good biosecurity and report the first signs of disease. Dr. Ir. Usman Ahmad, M.Agr as a supervising lecturer hopes that the visit enabled students of Postharvest Technology Study Program, of the School of the Graduate Studies, of Bogor Agricultural University (SPS IPB) learned first-hand information on the application of quarantine class.
Drh. Mira Hartati, Head of BUTTMKP or commonly called Balai Uji Terap welcome the visit of students of Postharvest Technology Study Program, of the School of the Graduate Studies, of Bogor Agricultural University (SPS IPB) to her institution. BUTTMKP has a very complete facilities and is very supportive for training pograms. Mira added that BUTTMKP often conducts training on several relevant agencies on fumigation, animal handling of viruses, quarantine Bimtek (supervising), and other training activities.
"I hope this is not the first and last visit of students of Postharvest Technology Study Program, of the School of the Graduate Studies, of Bogor Agricultural University (SPS IPB) to BUTTMKP, instead it can be continued with cooperation such as student research," said Drh. Mira. She is the alumnus of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of IPB cohort 17, she took the post as the Head of the BUTTMKP since 2017. (Wied)
