Ice Box Challenge, to Increase the Empathy of IPB Student’s on Humanitarian Issues
Humanitarian issues have been widely circulated both domestically and abroad, such as Extraordinary Event (KLB) in Asmat and Banten, up to conflicts in Syria and Palestine. To responds such situation, the Dakwah institutions of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), held Ice Box Challenge for IPB students and fundraising for Palestine. The event was held in the courtyard of Al-Hurriyyah Mosque, campus IPB Dramaga, Bogor, recently.
Ice Box Challenge was an effort to generate empathy and concern of IPB students. The challenge was formulated into a box car named the Palestinian Car. The box car contains a tent and television to display videos about winter conditions in Palestine and Syria. Not only that, the temperature inside the box of the car is also set to reach 10 degrees Celsius.
"The objective of this special event was to arouse the empathy of students, how should we feel to see the condition our brothers in Palestine. Thus, the students' expectations can be touched with the conditions experienced by our brothers in Palestine, "said Chairman of the Ice Box Challenge Committee, Fadly.
In addition, the Lembaga Dakwah Kampus (LDK Campus Dakwah Institution) Al-Hurriyyah with other Dakwah Institutions of IPB organized fundraising program since December 2017. The total collected donations from students of IPB amounted to Rp 31.84 million. The donation collected at IPB then was transferred to ACT by Chairman of LDK Al-Hurriyyah, represented by Dicky Irawan.
Fadly said that the donation will be combined with other donations across Indonesia into the Palestinian Humanitarian Ship Mission compiled by ACT.
"The Palestinian Humanitarian Ship is a noble mission to deliver 10 tons of sacks of rice to the Palestinian people. As Muslims, although we are separated by the boundaries of the country but we should to help our Muslim brothers and sisters all over the world. Especially the donation will give spirit to the Palestinian fighters there," he said.
Currently, LDK Al-Hurriyyah, Student Family of the Student Executive Board (BEM KM) IPB, and all BEM of the Faculties under IPB have been conducting fundraising for Asmat and earthquake in Lebak Banten. (Wied)
