Dr. Ir. Agus Purwito, M.Sc.Agr., is a friendly and simple figure. He has been the  Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of  Bogor Agricultural University (FAPERTA IPB), but today, 2 February 2018, Dr. Agus Purwito was inaugurated by the Board of Trustees (MWA) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) to be the Vice Rector for Resources, Planning and Finance of  Bogor Agricultural University. The oath taking was carried out  at IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor.

Dr. Ir. Agus Purwito, M.Sc.Agr., started his career in IPB in 1987 as lecturer. His first goal was to become a researcher and work in the laboratory, but the surrounding environment encouraged him to be a leader. He began his executive role as the Chief of Section, Executive Secretary, and Head of Quality Management Office. He even served twice as Chairman of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture of FAPERTA IPB, then he was elected as the Dean of FAPERTA IPB.

While he had been serving as Chairman of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture (AGH), Dr. Agus was elected as the Chairman with the best performance (KAPRODI Berprestasi) at the national level in 2013.

He started his undergraduate program at the Agronomy Department of IPB, and pursued his master degree program on Tissue Culture at Gottingen University, Germany.  He pursued his doctoral degree program on Biotechnology, especially Tissue Culture in School of Graduate Studies of IPB. He carried out his research program for his PhD, at Wageningen University, Netherlands. From the beginning his subject interest has been on plant biotechnology, on ornamental plants, horticultural, fruits, and plantation crops.

In carrying out his duties as Vice Rector for Resources, Planning and Finance, Dr. Agus has been mandated to improve the Good University Governance (GUG) or university governance.

"I was assigned to continue improving Good University Governance (GUG). IPB must continually improve its governance and to align its governing model. Higher education governance is a key policy issue of the 21st century.  Therefore, IPB must improve its transparency, accountability, regulatory compliance, awareness, and responsibility. Thus, GUG is very important and it is really a demand, both for IPB and the government and society," he said.

For the planning program, Dr. Agus will continually increase the involvement of all working units of IPB. Bottom up planning will continue to be encouraged so that the planning programs created won’t only belong to respective unit but indeed the whole IPB’ plan. The system will keep every unit moving in the same direction, at the same speed, working together to create as little friction and as efficient a journey as possible. "This is what we will succeed in the short and medium term five years," he said.

Thus, the welfare will continue to increase rapidly. In this era of transparency and accountability, the contributions and thoughts of all parties can be an input for the improvement of welfare.

"IPB has the best human resources team in Indonesia, they are able to create a good team synergy with other  IPB officials and colleagues, and have a lot of relevant experience and a good track record over the years if we are not aware we will not be able to maintain this achievement. We have to get regeneration soon. Regeneration from the government is relatively very few, only a few formations. Therefore, we can apply the methods other universities applied. For example, recruiting part-time lecturers by employment contract or recruiting for an experienced lecturer who already has a National Lecturer Number (NIDN). It should start immediately, otherwise the university history we will blame us," he said.

In the near future  Dr. Agus will give the Faculties under IPB the authority to designate to manage and to develop themselves into larger one.  "The important thing of all is how to improve the Information Technology (IT). With a well-developed and affordable ICT infrastructure, the management of IPB can be carried out efficiently, "he added.

"Let’s pray together, that I will be able  to carry out this mandate well. Please  support me! The important thing be smart work, we must work sincerely and constantly strive to help others, because by doing so we are rendering a great service unto ourselves, our institution IPB.  Insha Allah we’ll  look to the future of IPB better, "he concluded.
