Sharia Economics Student Club (SES – C) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Global Waqf organized Wakaf Education Seminar in Lecture Room AGB 301, Campus IPB, Dramaga, on 25 November 2017.  This Seminar was particiapted by dozens of IPB students. Speakers invited for the Seminar were  M. Imam Akbari as Wakaf President of Indonesia and Khalifah M.Ali as lecturer Department of Economics of Syariah, the Faculty of Economics and Management of Bogor Agricultural University (FEM IPB).

According to Imam, food security becomes one of the global issues today. Food insecurity is a global threat. The acute famine crisis has recently hit various parts of Africa as a result of weak food security. The nature of food and the means of its production make food insecurity a uniquely complex problem, with social, political, economic, and ethical dimensions.  Serious efforts to promote food security and sustainability must respond to the complexities of the challenge. Therefore waqf is believed to be a solution to the problem of food security.

Meanwhile, Andrean M. Irham Rasyid as Chairman of SES – C stated that the benefits of this waqf donation is not fully understood by the students. The majority of us still have a paradigm that waqf donation must be consisted of large amount of money or treasures.

"Whereas Waqf donation should not be based on the possession of large treasure. Therefore through Baitul Mal wat Tamwil (BMT) managed by SES-C we released the Food Wakaf Program. We initiated to issue voucher of endowment food starting from Rp 10,000 to Rp100.000, "he said.

According to him, the purpose of this food waqf program is not only to introduce the waqf, but also to promote Social Justice and encourage students to actively doing in waqf. Previously, BMT SES – C collected the funds donations from students for this food waqf program. There are even students outside IPB who also register to involve in this program.

"In the next few weeks we will still collect waqf funds and open them more widely for other academic community," said Priski Augantino, Chairman of BMT SES – C IPB.

The collected funds will be channelized through Wakaf Global especially for food wakaf program. By inviting the students and other academic community to do waqf, BMT SES – CIPB hopes to expand again the practice of waqf in the campus. (Wied)
