Mobil Curhat of Fema IPB Performed the Trauma Healing on Children and Teenagers of Fire Victims in Kampong Gudang Bogor
A few days ago, there had been a fire in Kampong Coblong, RT 05 RW 01, Kelurahan Gudang, Central Bogor Sub-district. The victims were about 40 families and evacuated to SDN Empang. Seeing this condition, Mobil Curhat of Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with Student Association of Family Science and Consumer (Himaiko) and Forum Anak Kota Bogor conducted the trauma healing on the fire victims.
This Mobil Curhat became a forum for the community consultation on issues related to the nutrition, the health, the family, and the children. The main target was in the children and the teenagers who were more susceptible to depression and stress from the fires experienced by their families.
The main purpose of this trauma healing was to restore the confidence of the children and to divert their minds to the incident of fire that befell them a few days ago.
“Many children tell me that they can not sleep. There are also those who do not believe that their homes have been burned. There are also still looking for the fire leftovers in their homes in the hope that there are still the goods that can be saved,” said Eka Wulida Latifah, one of the counselors of Mobil Curhat.
In an effort to foster a sense of comfort for the children and the teenagers living in the refugee camps, the trauma healing composed by Team of Mobil Curhat and Himaiko invited them to play, to watch movies, and to compete to get prizes.
This trauma healing activity was done once a week for the next two months with a more structured mechanism. Meawhile, for depressed and stressful parents, it would be held a special trauma healing in cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, Master Program in Psychology, University of Indonesia.
“With these trauma healing activities, I hope the people are increasingly concerned about the importance of helping the disaster victims not only in the form of the materaial assistance, but also the psychological assistance,” said Eka.(umi/Zul)
