Dean of FMIPA IPB Who Loves Reading and Cooking

Dr. Ir. Sri Nurdiati, M. Sc is the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Dr.Sri is the only female dean in IPB. Dr. Sri Nurdiati was elected as the Dean of FMIPA in the end of 2011 and currently is on the second period as the Dean of FMIPA IPB.

Dr. Sri Nurdiati graduated from Bachelor degree program in Department of Statistics of FMIPA IPB, then continued her Master degree of Computer Science at The University of Western Ontario, Canada. Her PhD Education was pursued at Twente University, The Netherlands, in the field of Applied Mathematics.

"My formal education were in Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics. The current course that I hold are also derived from those three departments, such as Numerical Analysis, Algorithm Analysis, Computational Mathematics, and things related with the three mentioned science ", said Dr.Sri.

She decided to use hijab for the first time while studying in Canada. According to her experience, living abroad always makes her more religious. One of her hobbies is to deepen the science of religion.

"My hobby is reading, especially something that gives the enlightenment and better understanding of religion". Because of this hobby, Dr.Sri is often being asked questions related to moslem by her friends. Also when she was at the Netherlands, she added, she often asked to deliver tausyiah and her attendance is always awaited by Muslim community here.

During her Doctoral education in the Netherlands, due to her love of the culinary world, Dr.Sri opened food catering and served as a manager. "I saw there was an opportunity to combine demand and supply. There was a demand from students who are lazy to cook, and on the other hand there were the wives of Phd students who can cook", her story.

Through that opportunity she decided to start food catering business in the Netherlands. "I offer menu list every Sunday through mailing lists, food order are limited to Thursday, then the food are distributed every Saturday," she added. The profit of this catering business were sent to Indonesia for funding hundreds of foster children who spread in various places through the Zakat Infaq Shodaqoh Committee of Islamic Network.

After graduating from PhD, she had an opportunity to become Head of the Department of Computer Science of IPB for two periods. She has also been a Vice Chairman of the Commission A of IPB Academic Senate. Currently, other than as the dean, she also become the General Secretary of MIPAnet, the Association of FMIPA/FPMIPA/FBIO/FST Dean throughout Indonesia. This year she was also requested to be a Vice Chairman of LAMSAMA Founding Team (Independent Accreditation Institute for Science and Formal Education).

As the Dean of FMIPA IPB, she has a strong determination that the FMIPA IPB should be able to make a real contribution to the progress of IPB by performing and achieving better, both at national and international level. Currently FMIPA IPB has become a reference in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)-based education  in Indonesia. FMIPA has a Fabrication Lab that contains a variety of advanced tools, such as 3D Printer, 3D Scanner, Milling Machine, Vinyl Cutter, Laser Cutter and other robot-making tools. Through cooperation with local government, FMIPA has helped improve the teaching quality of MIPA subject in various places in Indonesia.

Dr. Sri Nurdiati has been awarded Satya Lencana Karya Satya award for 10 years and 20 years of service from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as award from the IPB Rector on the Award Night of Tribute to Authors. (TK)
