Professor of IPB: Innovation was the Key of Competitiveness

Organization was always faced with the dynamic and complex environmental changes. In the face of the present situation, the adaptability became a key. This was conveyed by Permanent Professor of School of Business, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof.Dr.Ir. M. Syamsul Maarif, while delivering a scientific oration in the Open Session of the Oration of the Permanent Professor, in the Auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor (16/12).

He said that it needed the management of change in the era of disruption, the era of many challenges. The management of change was the process of constantly updating the organization with regard to the direction, the structure, and the ability to serve the ever-changing needs of the markets, the customers, and the workers.

"In this era, the innovation becomes a very important thing to create the invention that can produce something which is competitive. Products and services that dominate the market always have the innovation contents. So that to be the marketleaders, the companies should continue to innovate. This is important because the natural disruption innovation will always be there at all times. So the innovation is the key of competitiveness,” he said.

According to him, the human mindset determined the direction in which the man would move. Everything that we achieved was influenced by the mindset and influenced the habits. Therefore, it was also important to have the mindset of something. Thinking of the system became one of the keys to success.

Thinking of the system was a process to understand a phenomenon that was influenced by other phenomena. The problem that often happened was that the organization failed and was late in responding to the business challenges that arose unexpectedly.

“For that, the role of technology is very vital. The Technology of Business Process Management (BPM) is the answer which is awaited and needed by the business circles. BPM is able to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency through the development of the process automation and the agility to manage the change. BPM helps the organization in overseeing and controlling all elements of the business process, such as the employees, the customers, suppliers, and the workflow,” he explained.(zul)
