Although They Aren’t Student of the Faculty of Forestry, the Group of IPB Students Won the Debate Competition on Forestry
With courage they own, a group of three students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) were challenging themselves and even aggregate themselves at the national level forestry debate contest. The theme of the competition that they participated were really different with their subject interests they are undertaking currently. The group consisted of Apip Nurdin, Ilham Maulidin, and Dzulfahmi Alam.
"Our team is not from the Faculty of Forestry, but most of the group are from other discipline. We are student who are pursuing a major in plant and soil science, of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. I myself the student of the Department of Biology, who focuses on microbiology," said Apip who is currently chairman of Propelan, a community of student to improve for achievement in Indonesia.
Apip and the team were selected to be the one of the finalists of eight best teams, and won the 1st National Student Debate Competition of The 10th TGC in Action National Competition. TGC in Action (TIA) is an annual event organized by Prof. Tree Grower Community of the Faculty of Forestry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAHUTAN IPB). This year is the 10th anniversary for the organization to educate the public about environmental issues through innovative programs such as debate competitions, essay contests, national seminars, and so on.
The theme of the 10th Anniversary of TGC in Action was "Be Responsive to Optimize Forest Function" was held in last mid-October 2017.
According to Apip, this debate contest they organized is very fun and exciting. They always take the hot issue or up-to-date topic for their debate contest, and environmental and forestry issues has become challenge for Apip and his tams.
"Although our background is really different with the topic selected for the debate, it does not dampen us to improve our understanding of the new subject, and by learning different subjects it improves our knowledge and insight and new experiences. Through the competition I learned and share our inspiration with students from other universities, as well as enable me to establishe networks with them " he explained.
The debated topics were related to global environmental and forestry issues, ranging from land conversion, deforestation to peatlands, global warming, and so on.
"That's exactly what has urged me to learn something new, new knowledge, new insights, and new experiences. "Effort won't betray you" So that you are not working for nothing, you will be able to establish your goal, " added Ilham Maulidin. (Wied)
