Social Service of IPB in Sukawening Village was Marked with Nutmeg Tree Planting
Chairman of Agrianita of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Hj. Enny H. Suhardiyanto, SE symbolically planted 50 nutmeg trees in Kampung Sukabakti, Sukawening Village, Dramaga Sub-district, Bogor District, Saturday (9/11). This activity in the framework of Social Service of IPB as a series of events of 54th Dies Natalis of IPB. Accompanying them included Deputy Head of Community Services, Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) of IPB , Dr. Hartoyo, and Head of Sukawening Village, Jarkasih.
The Head of Sukawening Village, Jarkasih, expressed his gratitude to IPB that he believed had established a partnership relationship and independence with the campus community. He also congratulated on the 54th Dies Natalis of IPB. “Hopefully, IPB will continue to advance, developing for the benefit of the community of Indonesia,” he said.
Chairman of the entourage of Friday Tour of IPB, Dr. Hartoyo, said the program of the Friday Tour of IPB this time related to the birth of IPB or the 54th Dies Natalis of IPB. According to him, the campus played an important role in creating the model of the community empowerment which was an effort to create and improve the capacity of the community, both individually and in groups in solving problems related to the efforts to improve the quality of life, independence, and prosperity. The results of research and the variety of activities undertaken by both students and lecturers of IPB in empowering the community around campus continued to be developed, so it could be felt and provide the social and economic impacts on the community living around the campus.
He added, the innovations of IPB had been widely felt and enjoyed by the community of Indonesia, one of them was the rice of IPB 3S. The variety of IPB 3S was predicted to increase the rice production and the Indonesian farmers’ economy with their optimum yield potential, reached 10.23 tons per hectare. The rice variety of IPB 3S also had several other advantages, for example it did not require a lot of water and urea fertilizer. “Hopefully, the rice of IPB 3S can planted by the village peasants of around campus and can result in abundant crops as well as in other areas,” he said.
The Social Service Activity in Sukawening Village was begun with the Product Hygiene Training of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (UMKM) by the researchers of the Center for Food Science and Technology and Agriculture of Southeast Asia (SEAFAST) of LPPM of IPB, Fallerina, S.TP. This training provided the knowledge of how the business actors could produce food, maintain the hygiene and take precautions to avoid food and drink from the risk of danger, both physical, chemical, and biological dangers that could cause the diseases.
On this occasion, Agrianita of IPB socialized the Prosperous Family Service Center (PPKS). The event was closed by giving compensation to 20 orphans, the assistance of the health equipment for the Integrated Service Post, the learning supplies for early childhood education, the book of Iqro and Al-Quran for Majlis Taklim, and the rice seeds of IPB 3S for the farmer group.
