Four Innovative Works of One of IPB Professor Chair Holders Were Granted BIC Awards
Four works of one of the Professor chair Holders of the Aquatic Product Department, of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK IPB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Nurjanah, MS, was selected as the most Prospective Indonesia Innovative Work by BIC (Business Innovation Center), on 9 August 2017. By 2017 BIC has selected as many as 109 of Indonesia's most prospective innovations. The award is the special event for Indonesian innovators. After undergone to rigorous assessment process by 36 judges who assessed 654 innovations for 12 categories of technology, four innovations of prof. Nurjanah works were then will be published in the book "109 Innovations Indonesia 2017" in October 2017.
"I express my sincere thanks and grateful, as four of my innovative works were selected to be published in the important and prestigious publications by BIC. Of course, I feel that there are many shortcomings, and I’ll work harder as our country need more innovative works to develop the abundance of natural resources and potential of Indonesia. I am grateful to all those who have helped especially my junior staff and my students both undergraduate and graduate students, colleagues, and the immediate environment that supported me. Those works were well-implemented due to the persistence and good cooperation of all, "said Prof. Nurjanah.
Under the Business Innovation Center the four innovative works of Prof. Nurjanah which were selected as part of 109 best innovations include: 1). Porl Pomade Rumput Laut Sargassum Sp. Diperkaya Tropical Herbs untuk Rambut Sehat dan Stylish (Porl Pomade Seaweed Sargassum Sp. which is Enriched by Tropical Herbs for Healthy and Stylish Hair); 2). Beras Sehat Mangrove Berbahan Baku Bruguiera gymnorrhiza sebagai Antidiabetes (Healthy Rice made of Mangrove Bruguiera gymnorrhiza as Antidiabetes); 3). Krim Tabir Surya dengan Kombinasi Rumput Laut Turbinaria conoides dan Eucheuma cottonii (Sunscreen Cream Made of the Combination of Seaweed Turbinaria conoides and Eucheuma cottonii; and 4). Ekstrak Pigmen Karotenoid Telur Keong Mas (Pomacea canaliculata) sebagai Bahan Baku Produk Farmaseutika dan Nutraseutika (Carotenoid Pigment Extracts of Keong Mas (Pomacea canaliculata) Eggs as Raw Material for Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceutical Products. Among her four innovative works, two of which have been commercialized by Prof.Nurjanah, namely seaweed pomade (PORL) and sunscreen cream. They are available in the supermarkets or outlets various regions.
Founder and initiator of Seaweed House which is located in Cibanteng, Bogor, expressed that all the innovative works were due to the cooperative works of all parties. "Thank God that I have blessed with facilities provided by companions who or our partners. Such as the procurement of samples of seaweeds and Keong Mas eggs for my study which were collected from several regions in Indonesia, they were provided by parties of the our partnerships works, "he explained.
Seaweed House which is located in Kavling Anggraeni Blok A, RT 5 RW 3, Cihideung Ilir Village, Dramaga, Cibanteng Project, near Darrussolihin Pesantren was obtained from CPPBT (Calon Perusahaan Pemula Berbasis Teknologi Prospective Beginner of Technology-based Company) initiated by Kemenristekdikti. Seaweed House does not only sell sunscreen cream and seaweed pomade, but also for research location. There are other cosmetic preparations made of local based seaweed such for maskers, and lipbalm.
In the future, Prof. Nurjanah will continue to develop several innovations. One of which will be the development of pigment from Keong mas which is an invasive agricultural pest is a pest for farmers, but it has many health benefits. "Our target is to continue to plan further study to develop natural products. Keong mas egg pigment will also be developed for other existing products in Seaweed House including the development of collagen that utilize raw materials from the recognized waters that definitely is halal," she concluded.
