Students of IPB Participated in Realizing Gerakan Indonesia Bebas Sampah 2020

Emergency for garbage would become one of the spotlights of all circles in Indonesia. Until now, one of the efforts in tackling the garbage problems was Gerakan Indonesia Bebas Sampah 2020. The government also established on 21 February to be commemorated as Hari Peduli Sampah Nasional.

This was also moving the Student Profession Association of the Department of Resource Economics and Environment (ESL), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). By carrying the name of REESA or Resource and Environmental Economics Student Association, the students made an activity down the village in Pasarean Village, Pamijahan Sub-district, Bogor District.

The event which was scheduled to be held on 10 September 2017 was the premiere of REESA. The village’s downward activities included the socialization and the training to create a craft from the household garbage produced by the village community.

This activity involved ten students of REESA to provide the skills to the residents of RT.05 RW.05 about how to make the paper from the waste of banana gedebog and coconut husk. Other than that, it was also given the training of the plastic waste recycling into the handicrafts such as the key chains, the wallets, the frames, and the brooches.

“We hope that this activity will continue and expand, so that the garbage problems that can cause the other problems such as the floods and the diseases could be reduced,” said Kalisa Putri Andriani, the person in charge of the event.

She admitted, the gargabe problems were very difficult to remove, especially the garbage was generated every day by everyone. However, the garbage issues could be reduced. Hopefully, with the processing activities initiated by REESA could be one of the activities that could help the realization of Gerakan Indonesia Bebas Sampah 2020.(GG/NM)
