Inauguration Lecture of One of the Professor Chair Holders of IPB Who Is Selected as Member of Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI)
One of the Professor Chair Holders of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Muladno, MSA, was elected as Member of the Commission for Basic Sciences, Indonesian Academy of Sciences (AIPI). To that end, AIPI in cooperation with IPB organized Inauguration Lecture at Auditorium Andi Hakim Nasoetion, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on Wednesday, 3 July 2017.
Chairman of AIPI, Prof. Sangkot Marzuki, stated that inauguration of its member is very important to promote AIPI members to the community to prove the right choice in selecting their members. He said AIPI was established in 1990 under the Republic of Indonesia Law no. 8/1990 on the Indonesian Academy of Sciences.
The Academy has been formulated as an independent body to provide opinions, advice to governments and communities on the acquisition, development, and application of science and technology. AIPI is divided into five commissions namely the Commission for Basic Science, the Commission for Medical Science, the Commission for Engineering Science, the Commission on Social Sciences and the Cultural Commission. AIPI seeks to promote science through various activities such as scientific conferences and policy discussion forums, publications and the establishment of national and international relations.
On this occasion Prof. Muladno took on theme the importance of improving the capability of social farmers from various technical and non technical aspects, especially in business aspect. According to him, the existence of local cattle in Indonesia depends on millions of people's farms. "There is no other way to improve the capability of the farmers except through collective business," he said.
Further he explained, there will be a minimum scale of livestock ownership so that it can be developed and competitively higher. Unfortunately the role and persistence of local dairy cow farmers is considered not appropriate to get attention from the government and academics.
In the same location, Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, expressed his gratitude for AIPI as Prof. Muladno is honoured to be selected to become a member of the Basic Science Commission, The selection was based on his thoughts or ideas in order to overcome food security.
Prof. Muladno has initiated the concept of Animal Husbandry School (SPR) – 1111 with the motto of 1000 productive females, 100 males, 10 strategies, and 1 vision of realizing sovereign farmers. In addition, the purpose of establishing the SPR-1111 will be the media for learning for small-scale cattle farmers to improve their farm management knowledge, to be more professional, and more intelligent as qualified as university graduates in running their livestock business.
SPR-1111 is one of the "Technology IPB Prima". In addition to this innovated technology, IPB has also developed IPB 3S Rice, Tidal Soybean and various innovations and thoughts in order to support food security and national food self-sufficiency.
It is well-understood that works of Prof. Muladno are educational process that takes place in society and is highly relevant to the vision and mission of IPB in mainstreaming agriculture in order to strengthen Indonesia's food security and sovereignty.
