Care for Worker, Student of IPB Created the Unique Application

Agung Suharyana, the student of Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), made an idea as a solution for the workers in Indonesia. Thanks to the innovation, Agung was invited by the Ministry of Employment of RI on 14 July 2017 in the Meeting Room of Triparti of the Directorate of KHHI, Building of the Ministry of Employment of RI. “It is very pleased to meet with the officials in the Ministry of Employment. Apart from the innovation which I make, the relationship is a valuable moment,” he said.

Previously, Agung’s work was included on the Student Creativity Program – Technological Ideas (PKM-GT) which had now been funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) of RI. Then proceeding with the latest improvement and data which led him to the 1st place in the essay contest “Mari Membangun Negeri / Let’s Build the Country” in the national level in 2016 organized by Future Leader League with the title of the essay "Automatic Welfare of Labour: Standardisasi Penataan Buruh dalam Pelaksanaan Kontrak Kerja Berbasis Flexicurity System / Automatic Welfare of Labour: Standardization of Workers Structuring in the Implementation of Work Contract Based on FlexicuritySystem”.

Automatic Welfare of Labour (AWL) was the idea of the application that began with the concern of Agung when looking at the rampant of the  large-scale and arbitary job-term dismisal. “Indeed, in accordance with the laws of the market when the production decreases, then the input used must decrease. But in social terms, it is not human,” said the silver medalist of PKM-M 2016.

He said, the Minister of Employment of RI, Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, appreciated the innovation created, because this was in line with the desire of the Ministry of Employment of RI to create a unified system in improving the quality of labor in Indonesia.

Agung explained his innovation in the presence of Haiyani Rumondang as the Director General of the Development of Industrial Relations and Social Security Workforce. Haiyani and the invited guests who presented appreciated the idea of of this AWL application. “The Director General would like to have further discussion related to this AWL Application,”said Agung.

This idea of AWL became the latest breakthrough in the overall management of the labor activities as well as being the social security system of employment which improved the welfare of the workers especially in the life insurance as well as the acceptable employment status. The standardization created in AWL was able to eradicate the gap between the workers and the companies.

Agung hoped that through the innovation of AWL there was the job security for dismissed workers, so as not to disconnect the hope for the workers in the survival. “In the end, the labor day is no longer a worrying day, instead it becomes the essential day of happiness," he said.(SM/NM)
