In order to improve the capacity of the human resources in the field of the conflict mediation, Center for the Study of Conflict Resolution and Empowerment (CARE) of Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held Training of the Trainer (ToT) Conflict Mediation dengan trainer dari Mediation Community Centre / Training of the Trainer (ToT) on the Conflict Mediation with the Trainer from the Mediation Community Centre, Putrajaya, Malaysia. The activity, which was held on 23-25 January 2017, was located in the session room of Majelis Wali Amanat / Board of Trustees (MWA), Campus of IPB Baranangsiang, Bogor.

This event was followed by 10 participants, consisting of the staff reseachers of the CARE of LPPM of IPB and some lecturers from the Faculty of Human Ecology (Fema) of IPB, the Faculty of Veterinary (FKH) of IPB, the Diploma of IPB, the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of IPB, and one participant of the former rector in one of the universities in Malaysia. In addition to increasing the capacity of HR, another purpose of this ToT activity was to prepare the CARE of LPPM of IPB as one of the centers of the conflict mediation and the training provider of the certified mediator in Indonesia.

This activity was officially opened by the Head of the CARE of LPPM of IPB, Prof.Dr. Sumardjo. Furthermore, the training was guided by Prof. Siti Naaishah Hambali as the Leader Team of the Trainer from Pusat Mediasi Komuniti Putrajaya, and the trainer members of Professor Dr. Nazura Abdul Manap and Professor Madya Dr. Mohamad Rizal Abdul Rahman. On the first session, the training was filled with the exposure of the general overview on the conflict that was followed by the urgency of the conflict mediation and the mediation techniques. In addition to the tutorial method, the training activities were also equipped with the roleplay and the games related to the material. As the end of the training, it was done the assessment. The assessment was done to test whether the participants were worthy to become the mediators.

“Thank you for this mediation training, hopefully after the training the participants can apply the mediation knowledge to build the peaceful Indonesia. Hopefully, the cooperation between Pusat Mediasi Komuniti Putrajaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and IPB can continue,” said Prof. Sumardjo, who was also the Professor of FEMA of IPB.

One of the participants, Dr. Yeti, the Lecturer of FEM of IPB, said that the ToT of the mediation provided the benefit of the increased knowledge and the practical skill as the mediator with the reference to the international mediation guidelines. “The mechanical delivery of the material is quite interesting with the number of the roleplay portion, as to train the participants to be directly involved as the mediators,” she said.***
