Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB – Bogor Agricultural University) mourns the death of Prof. Dr. A. M. Satari, who was considered religiously meritorious and the one IPB proud of. Prof. A. M. Satari died on Monday, April 4 at 21:46 pm at the RS Fatmawati, Jakarta at the age of 83 years.

Dadan, the eldest son of Prof. Satari, expressed his gratitude to the IPB academicians who participated and prayed together in the mosque Alumni IPB Bogor Baranangsiang. The body will be buried at Lembang, Bandung.
 
"IPB lost a great teacher and leader who was very instrumental to the IPB. The late Prof. Satari was IPB Rector IPB when the university was in time of difficulties, but thanks to the grace of Allah, as well as his dedication, exemplary and his hard works, he successfully  made achievements for the IPB. May the Executive Boards of IPB, the Unit Heads, and all IPB academicians may reflect the late Prof. Satari. He may have died at 83, but his memory is eternal "stated the rector.
 
As one colleague and close friend of Prof. Satari, Prof. Dr Syafrida Manuwoto, Professor Chair Holder of Faculty of Agriculture of IPB stated that Prof. Satari was noted to to be very close to the academicians. "He was very brave, very innovative and had strong  leadership. I remember it well that he was appointed as Rector exactly after the G30S commenced. He was recognized to be the one who re-establish the international cooperation with foreign universities/institutions, "he said.
 
The late Prof. A. M. Satari was IPB Rector for 1970-1974 and 1974-1978 periods. The monumental programs made in his tenure was the establishment of IPB development plan for the first time, the implementation of the 4-year Bachelor Program curriculum in 1972, the establishment of the Graduate School (1975) and the opening of the Doctoral Program (1978). He was the first Chairman of the Consortium of Agricultural Sciences.
 
In his life he took several both structural and non-structural posts. In addition, he was also granted various awards in his lifetime, including Pahala Alma from IPB, Medal of Development, Commandeur in de Leopolds order of Belgium as rector, awards from the Association of Indonesian Engineers in Agricultural Engineering, Award from the USDA in Soil and Water Conservation, Honorary President of the International Sago Development Center of Japan, the Award winning of the University of Cendrawasih as a pioneer researcher on sago and many more.  (Wied)
