IPB Welcome Japanese Students to do Their Field Works Around IPB Campus

 The Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM of Bogor Agricultural University) in cooperation with the Direktorat Kerjasama dan Program Internasional (KSPI – Directorate of Cooperation and International Program) of IPB, and the Direktorat Kemahasiswaan (Ditmawa – Directorate of Student Affairs) of IPB organized the  orientation and reception program for University Initiative Japan Indonesia (SUIJI) Service Learning Program (SLP) 2016, on Thursday, 25 February 2016. The special event took place at room 301 of the School of the Graduate Studies of IPB. The objective of the visit of the Japanese students are to learn about different aspects of Indonesia, especially its  historical background and the influenced different geography and demographics on the Indonesian culture. 
 
Chairman of the Organizing Committee for SLP SUIJI 2016, Dr. I Wayan Astika, explained that the main activities for the SLP SUIJI 2016 participants will be field work. In the fields, they will immediately learn the local culture of the communities such as how they practice  waste management, education, and their local wisdoms. The location of their field works will be in Tegal regency, Central Java, which includes Bojong, Tuwel, Siarsih, and Karang Mulya. While in Bogor, they have been living in the villages around the campus which are supervised by IPB, that include Cikarawang, Situ Gede, and Bubulak Villages.
 
Further, he explained that for 2016 SUIJI SLP, 26 (twenty six) Indonesian and 23 (twenty three) Japanese students participated in this program. The Japanese university that participate in this 2016 SUIJI SLP program are Ehime University, Kochi University and Kagawa University. This program will be carried out on 26 February  to 9 March 2016. "We hope this partnership program will continues to be expanded and will become a forum for both IPB and Japanese students to learn and exchange of knowledge each other," he said. 
 
Director of Direktorat Kerjasama dan Program Internasional of IPB, Dr. EdyHartulistiyoso, stated that 3 (three)  Indonesian universities participate in SUIJI SLP 2106, are IPB, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the University of Hasanuddin. He expected that both the Indonesian and Japanese students learn a lot while they spend their time in fields, that enable them to implement positive culture of the local people’s habits.
 
Yet the representative of the Japanese lecturers, Prof. Shigeyuki Tajima, expressed that SUIJI SLP program had been successful and well-implemented, as assessed by the achievements made both by the Japanese and Indonesian students in in the field, especially in the community. Further he stated that the program was really beneficial for local communities and the students themselves.
 
Presented in reception among others were the Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Sugeng Santoso, the Head Direktorat Kerjasama dan Program Internasional of IPB, Dr.drh. Fadjar Satrija, field supervisor for Tegal, Dr. Zainal Abidin. (Wied)
