Students of Australian Universities Undertake the Training Course on Herbal Medicine at IPB

Twenty (20) students of the University of Sydney, Australia, and ten (10) students of IPB (Bogor Agricultural University) participated summer courses on the Indonesian ethnomedicine or traditional herbal medicine of Indonesia. This activity is a collaboration between Directorate of Collaboration and International Program (KSPI) IPB, Department of Forest Resource Conservation and Ecotourism of the Faculty of Forestry (Fahutan) IPB, Department of Biology of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) IPB and Biopharmaca Research Center of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB. This activity was carried on 11 December 2015  – 22 January 2016, at the Darmaga Campus, Bogor. 

Chairman of the Summer Course Program, Prof. Ervizal AM Zuhud,  said that the objectives of the course are to introduce the Indonesian  ethnomedicine that plays important role in improving the Indonesian’ public health. "The Summer Course is being conducted Especially to promot the Indonesian herbs or herbal medicine and medicinal plants to various countries," explained the Professor of the Department of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB.
 
The venue of the course is the classroom, laboratories and field. On this special  occasion, the participants were guided to visit the Experimental Garden, at Cikabayan, and Collections of Biofarmaka Garden, Bogor, Organic Herbs village of Martha Tilaar, Bekasi, PT Holistic Bio Medicine, Purwakarta, and Kampung Naga, in Garut.
 
Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation of IPB, Prof. Anas Miftah Fauzi, expressed that the utilization of herbal treatment has been practiced by Indonesian for generations to maintain their health. Herbal Medicine is considered to be the oldest medicine on our planet and is still used to promote healing and maintain good health. Therefore we have to maintain its authenticity.  
 
Finally, in the opening remarks the faculty member of the University of Sydney Australia who accompanies the team, Dr. Robbie Peter, on behalf of the universities expressed his sincere thank for IPB to host the important Summer Course. (Wied)
