Diverse Types of Oranges and Durian of the Archipelago Have Economic Value

Indonesia has various types of oranges and durian which have high economic value. This was revealed in the Indonesia Horticulture Investment and Business Forum entitled "Accelerating Investment and Development of Agribusiness and Agro-Industry of Oranges and Durian, Friday (27/11) at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) International Convention Center, Bogor. This forum is one of a series of activities in Fruit and Flower Festival of Nusantara (FBBN) 2015 organized by IPB in cooperation with various parties.
 
Head of Regional Development Planning Agency Majalengka, Dr. Ir. Sadili, M.Si said, Majalengka is a regency with a great potential for the development of durian. "Durian varieties developed in Majalengka include Perwira, Si Bokor and Siriwig. Moreover, Majalengka also becomes one of the largest durian breeding center in Indonesia," he said.
 
As for the development of oranges, we can model on the island of Bali. According to a member of Kadin Bali, Ni Wayan Sri Sutari, SP, MP, Bali is the center of oranges in particular the types of Kintamani. "The total production can reach 5,318.64 tons. The cultivating area of oranges is increasing from year to year. In 2013 the farming area covered 13,592 hectares and increased to 15,633 hectares in 2014. A total of 48 varieties of oranges in Bali can be developed as an economically valuable commodity, namely 22 variants of Keprok, five Siem, three Sweet, one Nipis and 17 Pummelo," Ni Wayan said.
 
Arry Susanto of the Research Institute for Tropical Fruit and Orange confirms the need for follow-up acceleration of orange agribusiness by setting up a well-managed private agribusiness center of 50-100 hectares in stages. However, he admitted the orange production centers in Indonesia have not been free from bacterial diseases, in addition to the main problem often faced, namely the discipline management. (Mtd)
