Society of Retired Employees of Bogor Agricultural University (P3IPB) organized the training on “Pengelolaan Sampah Rumah Tangga dan Lubang Resapan Biopori / Household Waste Management and Biopore Infiltration Hole”, Wednesday (18/11). The activity followed by the members of P3IPB was conducted in the Auditorium of Jannes Humuntal Hutasoit, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor.

Presented as the speaker was Ir. Kamir R. Brata, M.Sc, the researcher as well as the originator of Biopore Infiltration Hole (LRB) who won the award of Kalpataru from President of Republic of Indonesia. After being given an explanation of LRB making and how to make it, the participants were invited to perform the practice of making LRB directly.

Chairman of P3IPB, Prof. Kurnia Sofyan explained that this training activity was conducted as the educational effort for the household waste management which was often the daily problem.

Prof. Kurnia also explained that in the future it would be conducted the similar training. “This is the first stage, perhaps we shall repeat again so that all members know that there is an activity that is beneficial for household or surrounding community,” he explained.

LRB was an appropriate technology and environmentally friendly which served to accelerate the seepage of rain and to overcome the organic waste. Among the benefits of this implementation of LRB technology among others were preventing the floods, landslides, erosion; increasing the reservesof clean water; and composting and soil enrichment. Compost collected in the hole of biopore could be harvested to be used as the fertilizer. (as)
